I just got back from Lone Pine where Doug told me that Michael Strassman, aka the Chossman (rocknroll on this site), passed away a month ago. The circumstances were unclear, although the rumors say it had to do with drugs.

Mike had been going through a lot lately, but I don't understand what happened. Mike had a lot of critics, but his deeds and his creative personality won over a lot of people, including myself, He and I had been climbing together, or otherwise hanging out together a lot the last couple of years. I don't know how to contact his family or other friends to learn more.

Does anyone know anything? Please help me find out what happened to my friend.

Maybe if you re-title this thread with his RC.com handle (rocknroll), or start another, you'll get some response. Sorry about the loss. Hope you find some information.

Jorge and friends. This is Mike's sister, Judy. Mike (a.k.a rocknroll) was found dead in his new 5th wheel trailer in Lone Pine on July 1st. He died of heart failure. My sister has created a memorial website where people are posting comments and memories at http://www.debracowan.com/mike. There are also posts on forums with supertopo and summitpost. I'm sorry the word has not gotten out very well. Feel free to contact me if you were a friend of Mike's that would like to talk. jscyork@verizon.net

Hi Jorge,

I was a good friend of Mike's. I remember him speaking of you very highly. I would be happy to fill you in on what I know via email. You can contact me at dspieth@usfca.edu.

Sincerely,

Diane

I didn't know Mike but he was well known in many climbing circles and has made some memorable contributions on this website. We've lost a lot of commrades this year in the climbing community. My thoughts and prayer go out to his family and friends.
