Ok just heard from a friend of a friend that things are a kittle shady right now in the TonSai area. Rumors of barbed wire, small riots are what I am hearing. Whats going on? Can anyone confirm or disprove these awful rumors with first hand experience? peace blake

Meh, probably just another coup. It's a bit early - they had one last year. Usually it's about 2 - 2.5 years (on average) between coups in Thailand. Looks like term limits are getting shorter.

There's a big Hi-End Tourist development being constructed on Ton-Sai. It's displacing some of the older places and changing the character of the place Peace karl

There has been an insurgency brewing in the south of Thailand for some time now. Hard to say what might come of it. Brian

The muslim south wants to break away from the buddhist north of Thailand. That's what's causing all the violence.

Hey she replied to me about the conflicts, she says there has been some pretty major conlicts in the southern Muslim province's for about three years, which are south of Ton Sai. now and always flys Singapore cause it is not safe to go through there. The violence is slowly effecting nearby provinces. It is a problem but she did sound like anyone need to leave or anything yet. She does wonder what the future holds though.

I was there a couple years ago and everything was great. We saw some new development, but nothing not expected of a developing country. For those that do not know, Ton Sai and Railey are only accessible from boat. That is a lot of extra work to go "riot" there instead of on the mainland and I would bet things are fine. People that live there are hotel (bamboo huts) owners and workers. They rely on tourism and WANT us to come. Tourists = $$$
