I voted to respect the native americans request to not climb during June. I have lived in western SD all my life (54yrs) and used to frequent the tower. My perspective on the issue (purely my own) is that access is going to get worse soon, and wedging our self interest above a simple request is going to expedite the inevitable closure to climbing.
Hey everybody. I'm writing a lengthy report on the Devils Tower/Bears Den
Where did you get Bears Den? It might be one of the many native names associated with the Tower, but it is not one that I'm familiar with.

I'm curious what info you are basing this statement from:
I've heard that the ban isn't working as well as it used to.
To my knowledge that is technically correct, the numbers immediately after the vol. closure began, the number went down, but have come up in recent years. I was only able to find two sources out on the web (in a quick search): http://climbing.about.com/...ed/a/devilstower.htmLists 283 in 2005. http://www.hcn.org/...icle?article_id=3424List 193 for 1995. How statistically relavent that is, you decide.
P.S. I've never climbed the Tower in June, and I love Frank!
