Update

Well, this week was the time that I was supposed to go in and get another xray of my hand. I went in on Wednesday and to my dismay, the xrays appeared no different than those taken a week after the surgery to install the pin. But keep in mind that I'm no doctor, so reading xrays is not exactly my forte...

My appointment with the doctor was on Thursday and to my great surprise and delight the doctor said that it was healing very well! We looked at the xrays--old and new--side by side and he showed me the gray areas around the fracture showing the scar tissue that had formed. He explained the process by which bones healed beginning with scar tissue (basically transparent to xrays) then slowly turning into more of a cartilaginous material that eventually calcifies to bone.

So, next Wednesday is my surgery to have this pin taken out. I have been climbing a few times (shhh, don't tell), but only on real easy stuff. The pain in my finger is virtually gone, so it's looking all good. I'd post a pic of the xrays, but it's pointless as the difference is so nearly indistinguishable. I'll post another update after the surgery with pics of the pin (I told them I wanted it as a memento and reminder of how easily things can change on you!)

Be back in a week or so! Smile

Well lucky you - not much has changed since you've been out! Glad to hear it's progressing well.

Well, here are some pics of my hand and the pin. It's feeling really good; I just need to give it time to finish healing now.

I went climbing yesterday--first full day since early September! Had a great day, no pain, lots of routes, beautiful scenery, fun climbing!

Hopefully this'll be the last injury I post up in this forum!

Peace.

Also, SkyNet can't send you back in time unless the metal is completely covered by skin...Laugh

Glad your healing well. Looks like it will be stronger than before. Cool pics. And stay away from punching trees...Wink
