Real as in buying a permit and going out Saturday morning to hack it down, drag it home, cover it in stuff, kkep it like that for 3 weeks then... BURN!!!
Voted for Charlie Brown but I have a small cute fake tree of my own...except it's sitting in my parents' basement. I can't quite bring myself to ship it to CO - doesn't seem quite worth the $$. Guess it's time to sell the sucker!
I do prefer the real tree and my family gets a real one every year. Next Xmas I'll buy my own for my CO house.
Fake...Always felt bad about killing a tree for fun...Love the smell thou... Yes I know they're farmed and re-planted...:)
We had an X-mas tree fire in a trailer in the winter/retirement community that was behind our old apt. in Tempe. Jilly and i went over the next morning to see if they needed anything and the park super told us, mater-of-factly, that the two occupants didn't get out. We've had fake ever since.

I choose a fake for the reasons of safety too, but the fake ones wear out and need a replacement after only a few years anyways. So, if I were to judge on the environment, the real tree would be more environmentally friendly in my opinion.
I would love a real one but I refuse to buy one. If I was back home I would just go out back and cut one down. But here in Texas they charge an arm and a leg for one.
Funny sight. I saw a tree cut down and strapped on top of a car. I imagine that it was their Christmas tree, although it was pine . Maybe that's their family tradition?.?
I would counsel you against investing into any pagan form of celebration. Christmas trees ARE pagan.
Not only do real and fake trees abuse our natural environment, but it's also buying into the "Christianized" holiday of the Saturnalia.
You see, when Christianity was ordained legal and made the state religion by the Roman Emperor Constantine in the mid-fourth century, all the pagan festivals were merely "Christianized."
Christ was probably born sometime during autumn. Not Dec. 25th. IF you have to put up a symbol of something, put up a manger scene. Though it may not be the most accurate time to do so, at least it's something that better represents Christ.

When my kid was grade school, he brought home a fir tree on Arbour Day. We planted it in a large wooden planter and took care of it, in the garden outside. After a few years, the tree was high enough to decorate.
So we brought it into the living room on the 18th December, decked it out with ornaments and presents. After Xmas it went back outside.
This went of for a few years. Then we moved away, and left the tree planted behind the garden.
I don't know if it's still growing. If it is, it's about 25 years old.
Totally rocking the Charlie Brown Christmas tree. We stole a branch from my university's giant Christmas tree... it's not looking to great right now, but we got it for free, so now complaining.
Real! Next year I'm cutting my own though, I'm tired of the needles falling off 4 days after I buy the darn thing. As for pagan holidays, well, somehow I suspect Jesus isn't too concerned with which day people commemorate His birth. Let's not throw the baby out with the bath water here (no pun intended).

Don't have the space in the apartment for a real, full sized tree. My fake one is about 3 feet tall, and sits on top of the TV stand.
I also am of the artificial tree cadre, though it comes after a lifetime of real trees. my appt is on the second floor w/wall-to-wall, which would be a nightmare to clean the fallen real-tree needles from.
my tree cost about $15 and is about 4 1/2 to 5 feet tall. I keep it in the big closet in my living room, next to where I set it up every xmas. to put it away. I just pull the top section off, and shove it into the back of the closet.
I like keeping the tree up for a couple weeks after xmas.
I like to sit on the couch at night with all the living room lights off but the tree, and just chill.
