Hey guys, I recently joined my local volunteer fire department. I will be enrolling into the Essentials class this upcoming spring. I have been issued all of my gear and it fits quite well-considering it is hand me downs till I complete my classes. I see other guys have different things in there pockets, biners attached, etc. What I am looking for is what do you think would be helpful to have on myself while responding to calls? I know each firefighter has preference but I am full of questions. Thanks for all of your help! Chris

I enjoy these firefighting questions to break up the monotony, but if you are actually hoping for answers...there has to be a better place. If I remember your last thread, I was the only one with firefighting experience that posted. However, I have SQUAT for firefighting experience. If you are in a class, this seems to be a thing to bring up to the instructors. There also could be another forum where actual firefighters post. If you are just posting this stuff for fun and you don't mind that you get crap answers...please post away.

Because almost every firefighter I've met has had a personal story.

I forgot to add this: This comes in handy for a ton of possible situations. PMIŽ HOT X-It Kit Designed especially for firefighters, PMI's Hot X-It Kit helps to protect your rope against heat damage during emergency egress. In a hot room or flashover situation, seconds count. PMI's nomex Heat Guard is a heat and abrasion resistant chafe guard that helps to protect the rope against flame, adding critical moments to your opportunity for safe egress.

A window punch and a decent flashlight sounds good! I'll also carry a pair or two of latex gloves.

The spyderco knife I linked has a window punch, a whistle and will cut through a seat belt like butter (without a sharp point to stab the person with).

Surely the fireman's suit has a harness with leg loops and a decent light.. I'm only recently a volunteer, but if we have them over here in spain surely the suits in the USA have them..
