If this one doesn't stir some emotion, then you are dead inside.

True, the red x of death always stirs the emotion of rage in me, that I am going to have to cut and paste its address to view it... Wink

(but good idea for a thread)

Weird. It was there this morning, I saw it and it is heart-wrenching.

It looks like break removed it. It was pretty sad.

I don't come here for sad, I come here to laugh. If I wanted sad I would read Happiegrrl's Blog.

It was a picture captioned "Man's Best Friend" and was a picture of a guy laying dead in the street underneath a sheet with his dog curled up next to him with his nose touching the guy's hand.

That would make for an evocative picture. Pity it was removed.

Yeah, but that only works for images that simply didn't load the first time. (in explorer it is right click -> Show Picture).

But many of the red x's happen because the embedded image is actually from a site that requires a session cookie to view.

If you cut and paste the address into a browser, than your browser gets the session cookie for you automatically, and you can load (view) the image.

The problem for the poster is that we see an image on another site, and when we embed the image and hit "Preview Post", we still have the session cookie so are able to view the image when we post it. So we think everything is fine. But other users will get the Red X. (some sites do this intentionally to keep people from embedding their images in others webpages and forums; which, if done enough, can kill their bandwidth)

The only way to make sure the image is from a site that doesn't require a session cookie is to close your browser completely after you post it. (you lose the session cookie if any). Then go back and view the thread again to see if it will load.

A pain in the ass number of steps that nobody bothers to do.
