The details are sketchy and sparse, none-the-less, three people died today at Rumney Rocks Climbing area in Rumney, NH. There was one car in the Baker River and another pulled over. There were groups of people attending to a few injured on the sides of the road. It was assumed and rumored around the cliff that a group of climbers were walking the road as two cars traveling in opposing directions convened on them. It would appear that one car (east bound) veered off right and down into the river and the other towards the banking on the cliff side. All this was on the corner in between the larger parking lot and Main Cliff parking lot. As details emerge I'm sure you'll all catch wind. I'll keep you updated as I get info. as I'm a local that's at the cliffs most every day. Also pay heed to the local news station www.WMUR.com channel 9 for breaking details. Official reports say that two people died on the scene and one died later at Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth On a less informational note. We all need to be thankful for the gem we have here in Rumney. Most take heed of proper walking procedures when traveling the road around the cliffs, being cautious as to be always walking on the left facing on coming traffic. Accidents still happen as apparent today however. May those two people rest in peace and best blessings upon their familes.

My initial thoughts are that the locals (generally.. since climbers don't need to go passed the small lot) drive extremely fucking fast along that road with not much regard for other cars or the people along the road. Yes, climbers being on the wrong side of the road is a major issue and i suggested to Ward that he put something in the new book about that. Maybe this will be a wake up call for both sides. i'll probably post more as things come out

It doesn't sound like those killed were climbers. What an awful tragedy, in any event. Curt

http://www.wmur.com/video/16234727/index.html This is a video article about the accident. Pray for those three kids. Perhaps now people will slow down on that road. I walk that road 3-4 times a week. It's just a matter of time before a pedestrian gets hit. Slow the F down! It'll save your life and ours!
