looks like a scary A5 runout, if that gear blows you'll likely deck.

It's so he can provide a "dynamic" belay if the leader falls onto sketchy gear... Tongue

Or, so he can keep on eye on the haul bag, and prevent all their gear from being stolen.

Heh. It's always a reliable giggle to see that pic trotted out. I still wonder who those guys are, whether or not they're still climbing and, if they are, do they know this thing pops up on RC.com a couple times a year?

It is so out of this world that ...

I suspect they got set up, felt the pieces were bomber, and the belayer just backed up for kicks with the picture.

wouldn't belaying from that distance help reduce the fall factor? If the belayer were on a skate board or something it could help give a softer belay too!

The photos not there but I'm pretty sure it's the one I'm thinking of. The first time I saw it I managed to find the original thread on rec.climbing complete with a description of the goings on. L'dMAO

The person who originally took the photo got pissed off to see that no one gave him a credit for it and asked me to remove it.

It was not him climbing but he happened to be there taking it so technically, he owns it.
