Really there is no posterity to be had here but I'm gonna quote it for all to read anyway.

There's really that much of a lack of climbing there?

Are you asking if that's okay? Technically, it might not be, but if I were that desperate, I'd do it, but be kinda discreet about it.

Years ago "desperate" climbers bolted Henry Avenue Bridge in Philadelphia. They even put some climbing holds on some of the featureless sections of the bridge (roof). They drilled to place to bolts and the holds.

YOU'RE JUST BRINGING IT DOWN TO YOUR LEVEL. HEL IZ LNGER 4 U!!!!

Actually, we sometimes climb at an old sandstone railway bridge. Its actually not too shabby, and we're actually climbing on real rock in a sence. If you're quiet about it climbing on an overpass like this wouldn't be a big deal, but I'm not sure how much fun it would be.

We did this on my old campus... "NC State Traverse Wall" i think its called on this site. I was with some friends... not even sure what kind of epoxy they used but we used a gun that mixed it in the tube after it came out of the original cartridges. pretty cool stuff... same type of deal you'd use for glue in bolts.

I say go for it, even if there is climbing around... it should be fun and it sounds like you could climb in the rain?

The two types of glue I use are Hilti HY 150 which is about thirty dollars and requires a special glue gun, and Sika brand quick set anchoring adhesive which you can buy at Home Depot. The Sika uses a normal caulking gun and costs about fifteen bucks. The Sika is gray and the Hilti is tan. I would go find the Sika stuff.

That place is sweet. I had a blast there. For some reason, cars driving nearby when you're climbing decreases the experience. But cars driving overhead, while climbing, enhances the experience!

Yea Hilti is what we used in Thailand... bad erosion there unless you glue in. The gun is pretty cool but you have to get all you're gluing done in about 20 min or else the epoxy will dy up in your mixing tube and you'll have to get another one.

Now that I type this I reallize that this was only a problem for us because I live in Thailand and we only had a few mixing tubes. I'd call it Red, but red or tan, this stuff is bomber and will keep your holds in place for at least a decade.

The stuff we used on the wall at NCSU may or may not have been Sika but it was dark grey and it used a normal gun. Holds have started falling off recently.

There's a bridge in corvallis, oregon with holds bolted and glued under it. its kinda wet and slimy so the climbing isn't that great, and there are tons of crags an hour or less away (as well as 3 gyms), so i don't know why they ever put the effort in. but it seemed to work, and it got climbed a little by the locals.

lunch break climbing. unless you're within walking distance of a crag, it makes sense (to me at least) to create your own.

Some of my best climbing memories were under a bridge in Minneapolis right next to the bridge that collapsed on 35W. The only problem is that in some places, law enforcement may have the right to confiscate your equipment if you are caught.

My thoughts are that you should always glue instead of drill. If you drill, a prosecutor could try to argue that you were damaging the bridge and endangering the public. That's a risk not worth taking, so gluing is the safest option. It is still most likely illegal to glue holds.

Laugh BTW, there is a trad-protekable root on appleton tower- I shit you not. 5 pitches, hanging belays- awaits a FA. Could go aid. Have inspected line from my window (across the street) loose and chossy but good.

Um yeah, but is it a visually appealing route? I mean, wouldn't you rather find the first line on McEwan Hall?

But now that I think of it, I wouldn't mind photos of the line. The gear sounds interesting.
