There's been lots of controversy lately. What are your thoughts on this? If you are "pro" for it, then explain why. and vice versa. I'll be back later.

I'm "pro" Almost everyone I know smokes pot. If it were legal, they still would, and I doubt many more would suddenly become hooked. If it were legal, the cops could leave the poor stoners alone, and go after the real criminals. Being illegal only makes it more desirable for teenagers (for the most part) and less safe (Who knows what it could be laced with). Marijuana is less detrimental than alcohol and cigarettes. So why is it illegal?

haven't you seen Reefer Madness? Weed makes people kill others, have promiscuous sex, listen to jazz music, and commit suicicide. case in point.

I agree with headcrak. I'm for it. However, it's hypocritical. I believe in legalizing marijuana, but not other drugs. This is too lengthy. I'll just say "pro". Steve

Pot should be further decriminalized and available for prescription, but should remain illegal. Most places I've lived, you can smoke pot in the privacy of your own home without getting harrassed. People smoke on the streets in Oregon. Most places, courts and police have become tired of wasting time and resources enforcing marijuana laws. I think that the fact that marijuana use is illegal provides enough of a negative stigma to keep most people from smoking. With my job, I no longer smoke pot. If it were legal, I would probably smoke most weekends. Probably wouldn't be good for my motivation. I don't think there is any question about whether or not more people would smoke pot if it were legal. I think that would be a bad thing.

These are PEOPLE being arrested, of course we must (re)leagalize cannabis. All those lame, tired arguments for continued crimilazation are a product of a pertrified thought pattern down-loaded by Hearst and the like.

I think pot should either be legal or cigarettes should be ilegal. One is just as harmful as the other. I am not for hard drugs being legal (cocaine, heroin, etc...) -D D-

"if you don't like my fire, then don't come around, cuz i'm gonna burn one no how how how"... Hm...what is lilred's standing? LEGALIZE IT!!!! everyone i know smokes it...even my boss and associates talk openly about it. Unfortunatley, unless some big whig politician dumps buckage into legalizing it, i don't see it happening... Tobacco companies and lumbar companies (not to mention the cotton companies) have a LOT of money, and they'll do anything they can to keep grass illegal as they would loose BILLIONS if hemp came into the picture... its shitty, but suck is america... everything revolves around the buck...

I don't think the tobacco companies would lose money, as they probably would be the ones to take it over, and smoking weed makes you smoke more tobacco. You know who would lose? drug lords! It is so simple, it's funny.

Definitely legalize it! Think of all the money that would save by not having to enforce the laws that make it illegal. In addition, all the countless industrial and medicinal uses that would be so beneficial to us. ...puff puff give!!!

Actually, mariguana has the potential for being much more hazzardous to your health, but cigarettes are consistantly more poisonous. In response to what Dad said, If they made cigarettes illegal, I'd start killing people. Steve LEGALIZE IT!!!!! puff, puff, puff, pass....

I'd say lilred is on to the true reasons behind the prohibition. If people were able to grow their own plants and self-medicate, where would that leave giant DRUG companies and their astronomical profits. Individuals would hold a certain control of their own lives if pot were legal, which is bad for "capitalism".

And what with the growing having to be legal if the smoking was, it would be a TOTALLY DEGREGULATED industry. Unless they made you like, get a grow permit or something. Holy shit. Illegal without proper documentation. The governement would make a killing on something that people pay more for than GOLD. And the demand is there. This thread makes me really want a big cone spleef of boulder ak.

marijuanna, as well as prostitution has been legalized in The Netherlands (vacation plans) and almost in Nevada (Sodom). However, I don't think that with the current Republican Party (alchoholics) controlled government, that we will see it legal in the states. If it does happen (party time) there will be some interesting financial consequences (lilred's growlights become worthless), and some interesting media coverage (Bush does state of the union address high).

That's if you're not a local. I support decriminalization of using it. I don't care what you want to smoke or what you want to plant. I don't support traffiking, probably because everyone I've known who sells, either only sells to their friends to cover cost (not really traffiking: despite any legalalities) or sells to children, which I don't support. Retail would need to be regulated by the government like the sale of tobacco, if legalization were to go through. I would support commercial retail but the government would take too much of a cut of any profit.

I would say legalize it, but it would make no sense with my guns thoughts! I become schizophrenic... Just don't send people in jail for smoking it.

The question is "is it your body or not?" If it is your body, then you should be able to put ANYTHING into it that you want AND be responsible for the consequences. If you're sitting in your living room smoking a J, then you're not hurting anyone (possibly yourself) and that's fine. If you've had a 5th of vodka and you're driving a car, then go ahead and go to jail. Some people can control themselves under the influences of drugs and others cannot. However, you do not punish those that can because of those that cannot. I'm not sure why someone previously said that the govt. should regulate drugs. Do the research for yourself to see what's going into your body.

All i can say so that you all dont hate me more then you already do. It was put on the "ballot" here (AZ) last week. And i am GLAD to see that is was not passed. Its been tryed for a number of years here and has always been shot down. My standing = Do higher punishments, that will have better prevention of it. And better the state/comunity for the future. Later, Pride

I'm not advocating smoking anything. But Mark, you're wrong. I am responsible for myself, I don't need big brother/mommie government to be responsible for me. You must be one of those people that thinks you know what's best for others to have such a stance and a contridiction. Pride, I was going to go off on you, but I see you're young, young with a lot to learn. I hope you never find yourself or anyone you know on the other side of those harsh penalties you prescribe.
