Recently you have changed the main page thingamee to "Today's Posts" instead of "Recent Posts". This means that when I log in at about 5pm my time, there are no "Today's Posts" because it is midnight your time. I understand that most of the users of this site are north american, but I doubt it would annoy many people if you changed it back, and us non-north american types would greatly appreciate it (well I would anyway). Thanks muchly, Duncan

Hmm, okay, people have looked at this message, but no-one has replied. Have the wrong people looked, or can't anyone be bothered replying? If it is too much of a hassle to change things, can someone say so? Much obliged for your time, Duncan

I agree, it does get annoying sometimes but until those people at Microsoft, IBM or wherever perfect a way of using a standard Internet Time, there will always be problems. Im from the UK, so when i log in on a morning there is never any posts for today. I dont find it too much of a problem. I think posts should be used for info, chatrooms for chat. I you want info, go look for it. Dizzy.

I find the "Today's Messages" becoming empty at midnight anoying too, and I'm even in California.... I often read the forums at night before bed and enjoy the the nice convenient links to the most recent posts. I get pissed if I "mess up" and close/refresh the main page right after midnight and lose the links. What exactly is the arguement against having the list be "Most Recent Messages"?? seems to make more sense to me.

It's almost as if he doesn't miss the point, sauron, but just wants to be an ass anyway. It's working !

I'm sorry, I missed what was so untactful. It was concise and to the point. Bravo Dom, go get 'em.

Actually "Today's Posts" is wrong, since it is not the whole day's, but only, in fact, recent posts unless it's just after midnight. In my local copy of the code I've changed it so it shows the last 10 (or whatever it is) posts no matter what time it is. It doesn't need to flip like that. This change will make it into production some day.

I know the new php version has an option were each member can select what time zone he is in and the posts will reflect this back to them in their time. Maybe this is an option with php 1.4, then again, maybe not.

Andy, I think you mean phpBB. Yes, it has timezone setting in > 2.x. But there is much much more to this site than just the forums, and whether or not that setting is used elsewhere is another issue.

I just changed it to 'Recent Messages'. If Eric feels like committing his change, that'd be cool too. I wish I could muster up the river of tears that is emanating from elsewhere in the world about missing a few insightful 'Best shoe?' or 'Marking the middle of my rope?' threads, but for some reason, I'm thinking it's still Just A Website. A website which has a half-dozen other pressing matters that I'm tinkering with at the moment, unfortunately. Hope the syntactic change does someone good, tim

I looked into this more and if we change it to look at two days worth so we can see messages from the prior day, then we take a big performance hit. The problem is that it's a character field not a date field. Until we switch to phpBB2, then I don't see this happening on the front page. Trevor
