Q1: I was thinking of bringing a case of 20 Cliff Bars (even though they taste like shit), a case of 20 Cliff Shots and eight Mountain House Meals or something similar for a four day trip up El Cap. I'll throw in some caned food as well. Where is the best place to get this stuff? Should I try to buy them in the Valley or order them online and bring them on the plane with me? Q2: What do you bring for food on a big wall?

The mountain shop has a whole wall of Big Wall Food, check it out when you get there. It's a little pricey, but some of the packets are pretty tasty and it's low volume high calorie stuff. All the wall climbers eat it, except the really poor guys who mostly just eat chili and blow fire out their asses.

I have no clue but when you go at least do something no one else have ever done. While 1000 ft up cook a pie or something at least!

I dont cook on big walls but thats just me, i just bring cliff bars/candy bars, bread, cheese, GORP, and tuna (packets not can), sometimes smoked oysters are good but very messy. I work in Yosemite so i get all my stuff from the Village store (i get 10% off witch makes it cheaper than spending the gas money to go out of the valley). Since your flying i would just get everything you need from the village store and save yourself the hassle of trying to pack it all just to save a few bucks. Good luck with your wall and don’t forget YOUR GONNA DIE!

Merced, CA. Its like the biggest city only 2hrs away. They have a Walmart and Raley's. They also have a grocery outlet store there. Modesto and Fresno have more choices, but further away from Yosemite. The Yosemite Village grocery store is expensive, but you have to be really in need. I got some that Horizon box milk when my nephews were acting up there, and it was twice as much as a regular grocery store.

This guy would rule on a wall. He also might be able to fly. He looks better nourished than some big wallers I've seen.

I wouldn't take 20 cliff bars, but I definitely like to have a few bars with me for snacks or if I just cant stomach/wait for a meal, (I like the stinger bars way better than cliff bars, but to each his own) I like canned soups and beans, they're easy to heat or eat cold and they have some water in them. I'd say since you're traveling to the valley, hit a grocery store between the airport and the valley. The store does have a pretty good selection, but the prices are noticably higher. do a search for wall foods, some people have some pretty creative food ideas.

If you're coming from Hawaii, I'd guess you're landing in Sacramento or somewhere in the SF Bay. In that case, you'll be coming up Hwy 120. The Save-Mart or Raleys in Oakdale are the last best places to stop. I don't cook on walls. I have neither the energy or patience for that. My first meal on a wall is cold burritos, which I pick up in Oakdale and stick inside tennis ball cans. (This works well for subway sandwiches, too. Hold the mayo.) After that, I like canned soups (make sure to buy the ones with easy-open tops) and packaged indian food (Trader Joes makes some good stuff. You may find it at the grocery stores, too.) Canned peaches and bagels for breakfast. Smokehouse almonds. Dried apricots. Cliff blocks. Jolly Ranchers. Makers Mark. Sunflower kernals. Tuna. Fruit rolls. Cytomax. Bob Marley.

Skip the dehydrated food idea. Either way you're hauling the water. I like the trader joe's indian food -- good cooked or uncooked. Naan bread. Also, go for some high calorie stuff like peanut butter and bagels. Wax coated cheeses hold up if its not too hot. Fruit coctail or dried peaches. Salami. Chili in the easy open cans. Chef-boy-ardee pasta. Folgers tea-bag style coffee singles. Instant flavored oatmeal. Chocolate covered espresso beans. Power bars. A few gatorades. A few cans of Guiness. Advil. Stop in Oakhurst, Oakdale, or Merced / Mariposa, depending on which way you come in. The village store isn't bad. Fewer options but doable.
