I'll be spending a few days after Christmas in Valley of Fire SP. It looks like there will be plenty of bouldering opportunities to take advantage of.

Are there any trad or sport climbing possibilities in the park?

Thanks for any help.
Jay

Valley Of Fire is an incredibly beautiful area with rock similar to that found at Red Rocks near Las Vegas. While having never climbed there I did hike a bit and see some cool Indian art.

As for climbing - don't know if the officials there have changed their outlook towards climbing, but it was less than favorable in the past. I recall several Vegas locals visiting there in the mid 80's and being jailed for climbing. Perhaps someone else will recall more details of this incident.

The rock there is typically too soft to be climbing on.

With so much other good rock available in the immediate vicinity, it would be wise to leave the valley of fire as a landmark of beauty and take the climbing elsewhere.

Maybe in a couple thousand more years that stuff will harden up.

Thanks for the help everyone. It looks like I'll be hiking this trip and not climbing. I just sprained my ankle last night so even light hiking might be out.

Happy Holidays...
