Katy it gets easier, trust me. Last one was two years ago, November. It's the second time I've quit for good. After a while you get to the point that you don't want to be around cigarettes. I'm even to the point that the smell starts to make me feel ill (especially stale cig. smoke). You may have to avoid the situations where you usually smoked. That's what caused my downfall the first time, hanging out and drinking with folks who smoked.

Oh, great! I'm going to have to avoid all the situations where I smoked? I'm going to have to dig a hole and bury myself!

For me, that's what has worked. But when and where I smoked was much more limited. With supportive friends, it can make things easier, but a change in environment helps too. I smoked kind of like steve does, it went with drinking (usually). When I drank heavier, I smoked more. So, I not only stopped smoking, but cut my drinking way back.

ok I need to agree with Marmot. I used to smoke pretty bad. Worked in a foundry that let you smoke while working... Baaaaadddd Idea. Started going through a pack a shift. When I started going to college, the people I hung around didn't smoke, so I was the odd man out. That totally helped, because to be around them I couldn't smoke, just out of politeness. Also I read that smoking becomes a habit thing. and if you replace that habit it makes it easier to quit. I choose to start chewing sunflower seeds, to give my mouth something to do, when I would have been smoking. Well there were other things that helped keep me occupied too... !!!!! Good luck, and keep up the good work...

Aww sorry steve, I still sneak a couple in. Especially when I'm drinking. I love the look on people's faces when I bum a smoke that's a lite or *shudder* ultra-lite. Rip off the filter and roll it like a "J". Sooo much better. Oh and there is the fat, nasty, stinky cigar I enjoy in my living room, but that's just to piss off my roommates...hehe

Well, if you bum one from me you'll be ripping off the filter. Marlboro Light 100's. The brand of choice.

at least their 100's but I don't know about Marlboro's they put fiberglass in their filters, that's what gives you that lovely toad voice after a couple of smokes. I smoked Camel wides, or unfiltered's, which ever was available. THanks to my foundry job I can smoke, and ash, all while pouring 100lbs of molten aluminum!!!11

Yeah, sounds like a ton of fun. I don't get a toad voice. I get a Stevie Nicks voice.

Hey Anne - hand me the whipped cream and I'll start putting out these cigarettes. You give 'em a good whack with the paddle if ya catch 'em lighting up again.

let me get this straight, Anne is going to paddle us for lighting up???? Hey steve, throw me that carton!!!!!11 WARNING: The Surgeon General has determined that smoking can cause cancer, and paddle marks. Quiting now greatly decreases your risk for getting smacked by Anne!!! [ This Message was edited by: jafarr on 2003-01-07 11:49 ]
