i kind of saw this coming. i started climbing there not long before the guidebook came out(about 18 months or so) and almost overnight after the guidebook came out there were 3-6 parties there on any given sunny afternoon. it's really dissapointing to see this. i went to college 5 minutes away from here and this was an amazing area to go climb after class. I really would love to see the local climbing community step up against PIP for once and regain access to what is EASILY the largest concentration of rock climbing in the NYC area.

this area really is my "home area" and it would be devastating for me to never get the chance to climb there again

Contact the Access Fund and see what you can do to reopen the area. The article sounded hopeful that this could happen if managed properly. Here in San Diego we have a group (Allied Climbers of San Diego) that is systematically reversing closure of crag after crag. It's pretty badass how successful it is. But... it requires dedication, patience, and hard work. Make it happen!

This is terrible. I was hoping my kids would grow up climbing there.

Why did they have to close it? A climber never got hurt, there was no trash or destruction.

Why dose local town government have to take away the enjoyment.

Area is open again as of May 1, 2013 Go to the gravity vault and sign a Waiver and get a permit.

This is a trial period and we are under a close eye. They need very little reason to shut this place down again.

Climbers and hikers always get blamed for the mess left by others. Please pick up garbage even if you did not leave it there.
