**Short Version:**

Do the access fund survey and put Auburn at 5 the highest priority.

http://www.accessfund.org/...vey/apps/fc/form.asp

**Long Version:**

In the early 2000s, climbing became officially prohibited inside the Auburn SRA to technical climbing due to the political maneuverings required to continue and expand the previous lease of the Cool Quarry to Teichert. Since that time, local climbers and area developers have worked with the SRA and BofRec to have the ban repealed. A few years later, CRAGS was formed to tackle local access issues including Auburn access.

If you are not familiar with the climbing at Auburn, and you live anywhere in the Bay/Tahoe area, you really should do yourself a favor and come up to speed on the amazing climbing it has to offer. As of now, there are almost 50 sport routes established ranging from 5.5 to 5.13. While the climbing already established is fantastic, the good news about Auburn is its extensive additional opportunities for developments of new routes including potential multipitch sport routes! You can read and see more about Auburn climbing and some of the work that has been done to get access at the below thread:

http://www.supertopo.com/...RA-Access-Next-Steps

Through face to face meetings with the SRA, BofRec, Teichert, letter writing, and persistence, **CRAGS has finally reached an agreement in principle for a pathway to re-allow technical climbing at Auburn.** More information on the proposed timing and necessary steps will be released soon, but CRAGS wants to share an action that YOU can do to help check the box on one of the key necessary steps: waste / bathroom facilities.

The Access Fund is currently accepting votes for grants that impact locally driven access projects. One of these is CRAGS efforts to get climbing going again in Auburn. Please take a few minutes (it takes actually less time than that!) to vote for Auburn on the AF Grant page:
http://www.accessfund.org/...vey/apps/fc/form.asp

The key message here is climbing WILL BE RE-ALLOWED within the 2012 time frame assuming we can raise the funds to meet the SRAs conditions. Please take a few minutes to help!

Nice, this is good news, I've wanted to check out Auburn SRA for a while since it is very close to where my inlaws live. Keep us posted on when it is officially open.

The links at Access Fund are bad; searching for "Auburn" there turns up the "latest news": "City Support Garnered for Climbing at Auburn Quarry", dated 5/17/2009. The CRAGS website is gone. The link to the Supertopo thread is active, but that thread went mostly dead in 2009, with the two most recent posts just over a year ago saying nothing's happening, forget it, done fer.

Anyone have a real update, or should I take the advice of the last poster at ST (one Dingus Milktoast) and just go poach and keep an eye out for Ranger Rick and/or tailings being dumped on me from above...?

Slight update: CRAGS has moved to BlogSpot:
http://www.yourcrags.blogspot.com
The last post there is Mar. 14, 2012, but the Access Fund link they give is non-functional.

Auburn is OPEN!!

NorCal CRAGS worked to get a restroom and garbage receptacles placed on location, along with a regular pick up. In 2014, with close contact between CRAGS, the Parks Department, and hundreds of volunteer hours, we were able to open the Auburn Quarry to climbing 7 days a week, with no monitor restrictions.
