anyone know what the story is / was? (calling Jung) Not that I'm interested in spreading rumors or anything, but just curious.

Did he sell and head somewhere else? He mentioned that when I was there two years ago, but I figured that was just him thinking. Or did he get shut down by the town / neighbors?

Best of luck to him either way. A nice guy.

He is still there. He has been trying to sell the land and "retire" from the campground biz.

Hope that Roger finds the retirement path, it's from what I see a good situation to be in. One that I aspire to. That being said the new river scene is diminished without him, I have memories of having a great place to stay while climbing on world class stone. Roger always made folks feel welcome and relaxed. Best of luck to him.

There is some whisperings that he may re-open for the summer.

Sad to hear he's closed. One of my fondest memories of going to the new for the first time was the Roger's experience.

Never stayed there much recently however, it became overcrowded and ridiculous at night. Almost every night there would be some belligerent drunk around.

Too bad the best other option was the campground with a belligerent drunk for an owner. I don't think i ever stayed there without getting in an argument during check in.

I agree, I miss Roger, but I don't really miss camping at Roger's. And I pretty much refuse to stay at Chestnut for that reason...the owner is an ass. I have yet to find an option that I am completely happy with.

Don't be such a prima donna. If you're a reasonable person, Brian is reasonable enough. Chalk up his eccentricities to local color and enjoy the campground.

Bullshit. He is an A class dickwad. He's drunk half the time. He's confrontational and belligerent most all of the time. He has been downright creepy and borderline inappropriate when I have had any females staying with me. There have even been suspicions that he has tried to watch them in the shower from the inner room of his bathhouse. Give him your money if you want, but I (and many other of my climbing partners) won't be doing so.

Roger's a helluva guy and this is definitely the end of an era. My understanding is that there's nothing really exciting to tell about things. Roger just wants to hang it up. Best of luck, my man.

Re: Chestnut Creek. I've heard the stories, but I never personally had any trouble with Brian. Used to camp there a bunch before I lived here.

Re: another option. You've actually got a bunch of them. There's Cooter's, Gorge Gateway Center, Mountain State (full disclosure—I work for the company that operates Mountain State), RifRafters, Ray's. And the AAC campground, which just got zoning approval, might actually be open in 2012. That place is gonna to be schweet, and it's gonna be within walking distance of TRAD climbing. Angelic

Do you know if camping is permitted at Burnwood? I have seen signs up about needing a permit, but figured that was designated for large groups.

Didn't know you worked for Class VI!

Yupper. Started last summer doing their digital marketing. I also used to guide rafts for them a few years back. I had a lot of good times there myself, and they just keep on coming!

Had camhead out there Sunday with a couple other friends. Good times, for sure. About 7.5 feet. The Keeneys were definitely the best of the day. We didn't get left enough and ran right through the Mouth Wave... and made it. :)
