They are paying homage to the Vikings. It all started with them and those metal beanies that had horns protruding out of the side. It is even emmulated in the head gear for the 'True Warrior' in the Warrior Dash competitions.

U guys are right...at places like brooklyn boulders, there are tons of buff young studz, complete with mustaches, technicolor tattoos, and their sisters jeans.
These dudes are pretty strong, if u consider sessioning the big campus rungs @ a bw of 130 lbs a feat of strength.

This thread was founded by douchbagery. Thus it will continue to be ran by it. That said. I boulder and rope climb at my local gym. I often wear a hat in the gym, sometimes it's a cap other times a beanie. It's main purpose is to control my long hair. I've never thought twice about what anybody thought of it. I also never thought what someone would think about my breathing on a hard route or problem.
Seems people need to worry more about climbing than fashion or their own insecurities.

It is comforting to leave this forum for a month or so and return to find people still talking about a piece of headwear that has nothing to do with actual climbing. That said, nice beanie, karmi!

It's called a toque. It's to keep the brain warm, also some are doped with D30 which protects the cranium.
