Looking for some places to camp for free or some really cheap camping/hotels for a week in Vegas. If you've got any thoughts, PM me or post. Thanks for the input.

Thanks for the info. We heard about the 13 mile campground and that there's not really much else in terms of camping in the area. Do you know of any really cheap motels that would be a better investment than that campground? We're not really looking for the Vegas nightlife, just a place to crash. We're here for the climbing 'cause we're from Canada and the land of ice and snow doesn't really bode well for sport climbers.

the only place around red rocks to camp is 10 bucks a night at a blm campground near the entrance to the loop. the cheapest halfway decent hotel in town is the wild wild west. $20 mid-week Silverton is good to, and it is a little closer to black velvet If you stay in jean (20 min south) you can go to the visitors center next to the casino and get a coupon for a free second night. $20 for 2 nights.(you have to sign up for a points card) mt charleston has good free camping near the hood, 9,000 ft and can be cold this time of the year the map shows where the hood(super good 12 and up limestone) is. 100 yards before the parking for the hood take the left fork onto a dirt road, go past a fenced in well building and make a left into the trees. Camp there, it is 200 yards from the trail head rockfax.com has an overview map of the area and a free topo for robbers roost

There are water faucets, pit toilets, Fire rings, sand tent zones and garbage services. Don't expect showers OR anything resembling shade though. Of course shade in the Winter isn't a big deal

You really would be better off at a hotel...the campsite by Red Rocks is a joke. It works if you're going to be there for a weekend other than that, I really would have to suggest a cheap hotel...

If you can't go a week w/out a shower though, particularly in the desert in the middle of winter, you need to work on your dirtbagging skills :)

In reply to: The camping at Red Rocks is perfectly fine except for the price, but such is life. Agreed. Considering the size of the city you are up against. Adequate. Nothing more or less. Just should be free........ I do counsel to spend at least one night in a Strip Proximity hotel and try to glom some coupons for buffets. The human spectacle of the strip is too interesting to take a pass.....

Go to hostels.com and look for hostels in Vegas. I've stayed at them both. The one on the main drag is better in my opinion. The other is a party 24/7. Not recommended if you want to sleep. ja.
