It's a full avulsion called a degloving, sometimes the result of a crushing injury. My EMT book has a picture of a full degloving of a guys penis. Now that's a frightening sight.

Please don't tell the story of how the guy in your medical book did that. I don't think I want to know that one.

It appears that this is a poster for the Naval Safety Centre and if you cut back the last part of the address it takes you to the page where this poster is under Aviation Maintenance, I would assume this was possibly a mechanic, for anyone who wonders what happened.

how Safe is my hemp necklace? What would happen if it snagged on somthing? Hemp is really stong and it is being held together by a 50lb test brass swivle clip. I wonder if it would break under my body weight or hold? I hope it would break!!!

I would assume that it will break but not before possibly snapping your neck and definitly leaving one hell of a red mark.

EUW! gross is no lie. I would think though that if you had a ring on a necklace, probably your best bet is to wear it UNDER your shirt. I think that would keep it from snagging unless you did something really strange. Unless you aren't wearing a shirt...in which case, I'm not sure what would help.

If your necklace is that strong, I would take it off as well. At training we make all our students take off their necklaces, rings, watches, earrings, etc to stop such injuries. I know a Tai kwon do instuctor who had his nipple ring ripped out, it looks like he has three nipples now.

That is absolutly repulsive. I know we all have skina nd bone, and maybe it will be enough to keep those dredid wedding rings, bells, and inlaws away for a while.

Ok... just a bit different, but.... I was watching a guy leading at a gym. Pulled the rope up and put it in his mouth (teeth) to grab some more. Can anyone finish the story??????

The tooth fairy had a few coins to leave for him that night.

That looked pretty bad. I've never seen a finger that bad from a ring. I have seen a couple of really bad cuts though.

This injury is called "Ring Avulsion" It is fairly common to varying degrees of injury.

Do not wear rings while climbing.

Beginners - this is why one never should hook a finger through a hanger.

I was always an advocate of never taking it off because I've climbed so many times with one and never even got a pinch.

Think I'll put it on my necklace from now on.
