When I was taught hooking my first lesson was don't look at it and don't lean back. I apply this now to most pieces.

hey drunk monkey,
becareful putting your hand over the piece when you are testing, if it is a hook, beak or pecker and it blows yu may need some stiches

DANG IT!
This situation came up in the "How Do I Hook" topic.
The proffered wizdumb?
"Keep your head down and let your helmet see what goes wrong if the hook pops."
Nobody can read all the topics, but the sheer volume is supposed to help.

I took a skyhook to the forehead while I was aid bouldering under T-trip.I had no eye protection on,I was looking down,blew the hook,blood dripping down my face,drinking wine,smokin weed,boom box playing Zappa,those were the good old day's.
