Lets Vent One, I am a great foe of the work ethic and two, I really detest the people I work with. Are you lucky enough to awake every morning with those blessed thoughts "oh! d&*n!!!!!!! I have to go to work" and "god I hate the people I work with". Are you a member of the "I hate my coworkers and disrespect my manager" club??

Well Jake, I love my job. I'm a self-employed freelance outdoor writer/reporter/journalist that makes no money doing so. Hey, it's going to take some work and recognition to earn any kind of living this way. I'm willing to make that committment because I'm not a greedy, money-oriented person. Those people serve no purpose. If I wanted money, I could go back to management. I was making up to 65K a year doing that. I couldn't stand being a rat-racer. There's no point to it. Case in point, last Monday I was on my way to our climbing crag. I was venturing out there because I was writing a piece on some John Gill classics at Devil's Lake. I looked at all the cars heading the opposite way into Milwaukee. Obviously, they were commutting to work and I laughed and out loud said, "Rat-race suckers!". I used to be one and never will be again. So, I hated my job, but not any more and I am willing to wait five years if need be, to earn a little money writing. Money doesn't make me happy. Other things do.

Yes, actually. However, I'm going to go back to college for photography. The local tech school has an associates program for photography. Hell, I'll write you frame it!

I don't usually hate my job at dairy queen but I had a bad day today. The owner's son was working and he was being a b*tch. He always try's to boss people around and stuff. 2 minutes after my shift was over he told me to clean up ice cream that he spilled on the floor. I told him to F*ck off.

Hey bakedjake, I don`t want to come over too harsh but if you don`t change the things you find distasteful about your job then you`ll forever be a loser. The really unfortunate part of your post is the quote at the bottom quoting Hellen Keller. Mate get out there and grab adventure and don`t continue to be a drone. dude it will actually be the work ethic which you despise which will free you up to enjoy the adventurous side of life. Otherwise ya may as well invest in a cardboard box and sit beside a freeway. ...Phil...

I have a job, 15 days a month I run a diving operation, when its my days I am just as happy to work as I am to have the day off. My boss (the GM) has never said No to a day off. Then I get a month of Vacation/yr. Pay is more than fair. Sure I have bad days, I used to get pissed at traffic so I started biking and wow has that been good. After losing my biz 1 1/2 yrs ago I have really focused on a peaceful love filled existence. Maybe that sounds a bit nuts but damn that biz did a number on me! Cheers, Bill

I worked in corporate management for a bit, made six figures, hated it so much I was puking in the morning from stress before I went to work. Finally got to the breaking point and quit on the spot one day because I simply couldn't go back. Ran a theatre company for a while but it went under/is on permanent hiatus (depending on how you like to look at it). Liked doing theatre, hated doing the business part. If I won the lottery I'd probably keep it going, but I don't like going around kissing people's a$$e$ to get their money. Yuck. Right now I'm working retail as the third key for a children's clothing store. Not nuts about inconsistent hours or the pay, but I like the work. I'm on my feet all day, I get to do physical things (receive shipments and whatnot), and interact with people and their kids. I'm not completely satisfied with this current gig (it's certainly not a career choice), so I've applied to grad school to get my Master's in Education and see about teaching high school. I've taught a bit as a side gig before, so I'm pretty sure I'll like it (if I can survive the bureaucracy). k.

I'm pretty displeased with my job. I do neuropsych tests for a neurologist at hopkins hospital. I know its a good job and should feel rewarding, but mostly I do stuff for research, so it feels like I'm just bothering people. Plus, I don't have the mindset I need to not take the job home with me, so it messes with my emotions. I'm just not cut out for it. Leaving in 6 months though, so, hopefully I can find something better.

Can't say I hate my job, but I can't say I love it. I work 9-6 M-F. I sit on my a$$ all day and wish I was climbing, mostly cause I sit on here all day. There's only 5 of us and my coworkers are really nice. I'm not really doing what I went to school for, though. One thing I was told by my high school math teacher, "You will have many jobs, and maybe a few careers. You will find out what you don't want to do pretty quickly. I found out I didn't want to be a grave digger. The most important thing to remember is that if you're not happy in whatever job your in, move on."

Having a job... is better than not having a job. Having spent nearly 1.5 years scraping by, recently, I'm quite happy that I have permanent employment, especially in this wonderful economy. T

I work as the only IT guy for a construction company. Hate the work, like the people. Once in awhile they need an extra guy in the field for a couple days. I jump on that, getting out in the field, getting dirty and running heavy equipment. Then I return to this boring ass desk. I must agree that being unemployed is worse than having a job you don't enjoy.

Actually I'm on the prowl as we speak...."anyone out there who needs a technically oriented sales pro"????? In the mean time bashing my current situation helps me maintain my sanity. With the maze of personalities I have here I feel like I'm in the bar scene in the starwars movie. Bash, bash, bash, there I can get through another few hours.
