Was just thinking since dinner ledge is such a mad house why not go all the way. This 4th I am giong to be dropping pounds on El Cap. But I was thinking maybe 2004 4th of july. We all get together and make a freak show of dinner ledge.... Hang a huge flag off the roof on the next pitch. Haul a 10 gal keg up there.. BBQ some hot links and the whole deal......Climber party who would be into that? clothing optional, I want people in the valley to look up and say DAMN!

In my opinion, kegs and cliffs don't mix.

I'm with the "kegs and cliffs don't mix" option. Kegger afterwards? hells bells! But before or during? Probably not. :? :?:

I guess you'd have to have a "No drinking and rappelling rule". So when you get to the ledge the host will have to take everybodies rappel device until they sober up?  josh

What the .....?! Of COURSE big walls and kegs mix. Damn straight they do! Sheesh. Ammon McNeely [elcapbuzz], his brother Gabe [rogueclimber], Chongo, my partner Nick Ginn and I had the All Time Greatest Keg Party on Big Sur Ledge in May, 2001. Damn, it was bitchin'. I've got a bunch of photos. Gotta get 'em posted. Man, what a night! You should've seen Ammon. "Geez, Ammon, I've only got two cups...." That boy had his knife out and the top of a water bottle chopped off in five seconds flat. "Fill 'er up, matey!" ARRRRRR-DE-ARRR!!!!!! Shiver me timbers!!! The crusty bah-stahd! He traversed three hundred feet horizontally to drink me beer!

Pete's post got me thinking - I wonder just how many keggers have been held on El Cap. We had about 12 people for a kegger on Heart Ledges in the Summer of '98. Kegger + Big Stone = Great Times :D

taboot to Tyler Phillips and the C-Town Crew! There is a route in Zion(kolob) were Troy Anderson and his Boy hauled 4 cases of brews on the FA. "It was sick! We climbed one pitch a day and split half a case of beer per day on the ledge!" -Troy Anderson commenting on the first ascent of The Beerhedral kolob Canyon. Jehovah Jireh, m

I'm in. Better than slab climbing drunk, which is usually what happens at Josh around 2pm. Get the hard climbing out of the way in the morning, then start drinking around noon and start slab climbing. I would be down for 2004 as this summer will be tight with work. Will do the Nose in May though and head to Canada in August for 2 weeks. TRADitionally yours, Cali Dirtbag

I heard a story about a climber who had a bit too much to drink on Ahwahnee Ledge one night. He took a step in the wrong direction and disappeared. His partner looked over the edge and watched in horror as a headlamp went to the deck. !!!@#$%^&^%$#@!!!!! Luckily the swilly climber was tied in (though it was a long leash). To the relief of his partner, he bat-manned back up the rope to safety. Time for another beer. Or,... how about the crazy drunk on Dinner Ledge? There was some sort of party and apparently, many climbers attended. Late in the night, one of them stumbled and fell headfirst and backwards toward the edge. Another rummy climber grabbed the dude’s ankle as he slid, stopping him with only a few feet to spare. It's up to you.

"You know you're old when you do one pitch a day, and you and your partner split two pots of coffee at each ledge." They also have those 5 liter mini kegs from Europe, which might be more feasible for smaller parties.

8) NICE ONE PETE!! That was a great time! Thanks for rogueing the keg for us mate! drinking and climbing are both inherently dangerous, why not cut the risk in half by doing both at once! Haa! HAAA!!

I was there for the keg party in the summer of '98 on Heart ledge, in fact, it was our keg. Brent E. (Shaggy) got the full keg wrapped up in some sheets from the lodge and we hauled that thing all the way up to the ledge. Best night of my life. First time I ever did a keg stand.....
