So here I am, When this poor excuses for a winter finally ends I will be starting my third summer as a climber. “I’ll never do that” was quickly replaced by the passion and desire that all of you who are reading this know and understand. It is more than a hobbie or a sport. It is the life style and dream that drives and guides us. At least that is how it has evolved my life. I am at the stage in my climbing where I am on sighting 5.10s working the 11s and dreaming of the “big projects” and stellar trips that I poor over in magazines while sitting on the komodo. So here is my question. Can a climber date a nonclimber? How do you explain the commitment and the risk that surrounds us? “so ahhh, do you climb”? is about the only pick up line that I seem to use. Added to the fact that I live (for now) in the land of beer guts, snowmobiles, and fishing poles. I may be shooting in the dark. Minnesota does pose some limitations. So give me your opinions, stories and pointers if you would. Matt Stone St. Cloud, MN

just because someone doesn't climb doesn't mean you can't date them, just try a different pick-up line like hi whats your name, or something less cheesy

Date? Sure. Will it last? That depends on your priorities and the tollerance level of the significant other.
