I see the Catalina fire from my balcony - they say it looks worse from down here because of so many "fingers" but it seems bad from anyplace if you ask me. Highway is closed at the base...time to climb Cochese.

Well, Cochise is nice and all but it is probably pretty blasted hot right now. Of course, it is less hot than the fire is but not by much. I guess Flagstaff is definitely going to get an influx from Tucson after all. Look out guys here we come. I'll make sure to tell everyone to be as irresponsible with fires as they apparently are on Mt. Lemmon so we can ruin it for you too.
P.S. - Don't send any negative commentary back my way. The last few lines are SARCASM. Just being cautious.

I have added a current conditions of forest fire in the US link to the first post.
The fire on Lemmon does not look good! Summerhaven has been torched. Not sure what has happended to the Summit crags. Maybe some of our Tucson local can give us info to the areas hit by the fire.
Also here are updates on restrictions in AZ
Coconino and Kaibab
Flagstaff, Ariz. – The Kaibab and Coconino National Forests will have campfire and smoking restrictions beginning Thursday, June 26 at 8 am. The North Kaibab Ranger District located north of the Grand Canyon will not go into restrictions because they have received more moisture and have a lower fire danger than other forested areas in northern Arizona.
The Kaibab and Coconino National Forests remain open for recreation. The restrictions mean that campfires will be prohibited except in developed recreation sites. A developed recreation site has established campfire rings or grills and typically has picnic tables. Smoking will only be allowed in an enclosed vehicle or building or developed recreation site.
Prescott
PRESCOTT Ariz—Forest officials will increase fire restrictions on the Prescott National Forest on Friday, June 6 at 8 a.m. “While some of the indices we monitor are in line with our current restrictions others are elevated to a point where additional actions are warranted,” said Fire Management Officer Tony Sciacca.
Campfires, charcoal grills and stove fires are prohibited forest-wide except in two areas on the Verde Ranger District. Pressurized liquid or gas stoves, lanterns and heaters meeting safety specifications are allowed. The two areas exempt from fire restrictions are the portion of the Verde district East of Interstate 17, and Northeast of State Highway 260. Smoking is allowed only within an enclosed vehicle or building.
In addition to the restrictions, a closure will be implemented in the southern portion of the Bradshaw Ranger District. The boundary for the closed area is described as; from the Forest boundary south and west along Forest Road 259 to Poland Creek, then south along the Castle Creek Wilderness boundary to Whiskey Springs, then south along Forest Road 100 to trail 233, then southwest along the trail to the Forest boundary, then east and north along the Forest boundary to Forest Road 259. This area is generally known as the Castle Creek Wilderness and Horsethief Basin area.
“The southern Bradshaws have experienced an extremely high rate of ponderosa pine mortality as a result of the Ips bark beetle. In some areas the mortality rate exceeds 95%. I think this condition requires us to take an extra step of protection given the response time for both air and ground attack,” said Bradshaw District Ranger Ernie Del Rio.
The public is also reminded that fireworks are always prohibited on all national forest lands. Violation of any fire restriction orders is punishable by a maximum $5,000.00 fine or 6 months imprisonment or both. Please help keep our forests free from fires for the duration of this fire season.
Tonto
Phoenix– On Tonto National Forest, campfire and smoking restrictions which were begun under the Mogollon Rim near Payson and in the Pinal Mountains near Globe at 8:00 am, Tuesday, May 20, will now be extended to cover a larger area along the rim at 8 am on Friday, June 20.
Campfire and smoking restrictions will be in effect from south of the Mogollon Rim, including such communities as Rye, Payson, Gisela, Star Valley, east to Forest Road 12. North and south of Hwy. 260 east of Payson to the top of the Mogollon rim and both sides of Hwy. 87 north of Rye to the top of the rim will all be in fire restriction beginning Friday, June 20.
Area closures will remain in effect around the communities of Pine and Strawberry, north of the Tonto Natural Bridge State Park (which is not affected by this closure) to the Mogollon Rim. The northwest boundary of the closure area is the Irving Power Plant. The Pinal Mountains south of Globe will also be closed.
“The two areas remain closed due to lower than average winter precipitation, continuing drought and the thousands of acres of dead trees due to the pine bark beetle infestation. For the same reasons, we are extending campfire and smoking restrictions to cover a larger area of the northern part of the forest. These conditions dramatically increase the potential for wildfires to spread. We continue to caution our visitors to help prevent human-caused wildfires by following fire safety standards,” stated Karl Siderits, Tonto National Forest Supervisor. “We continue to ask the public to please help keep our forests free from fires for the duration of this fire season. “
Coronado
Lemmon Hyway is Closed for now.
The year-round free campfire permit system on the Santa Catalina Ranger District, including Mt. Lemmon and Redington Pass, will be suspended during fire restrictions.
Restrictions include the following:
· Open Campfire Restrictions: Campfires, charcoal grills and stove fires are prohibited on national forest lands, except in Forest Service developed campgrounds and picnic grounds where grills are provided. Pressurized liquid or gas stoves, lanterns and heaters meeting safety specifications are allowed.
· Smoking Restrictions: Smoking is allowed within an enclosed vehicle or building; a developed recreation site; or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter and free of all flammable material.

I worked in Florence today on the new county courthouse. I had a really good view of the fire on Lemmon.
From what I saw, it does not look good. I saw 3 huge plumes of smoke one on top, one in the middle and, one at the base of the mountain.
Only 5% contained.
Lets all pray for rain and all the weary firefighters risking their lives balttleing these fires.

Latest word on Aspen fire...
Size of the fire jumped from 12,000 to 20,000 acres. 15% containment. Possibly 2 weeks before they get this one snuffed. This is sooooooo not good.

As of 1:00 pm today the Aspen fire is 5 miles away from the town of Oracle. The fire is heading north down the mountain and the winds a pushing it hard. From what it looked like today it has went from pines to desert.
Oracle has a population of 3000 and is on alert for evacuation.
Hope this is not bad news for the folks in Oracle.

Aspen Fire
Well... apparently the Bioshphere is NOT engangered of burning anymore and they have a 15% containment on the blaze. It is now some 25,000 acres toasted... lets hope they can squelch this sucker quickly.
