I have been climbing there for about 15 years. And My father and Uncle have climbed there since the early 70's. This place is classic!

Been climbing at Castle for all of my climbing career, about 9 years. I have noticed the popularity of bouldering and climbing in general increase.

I make it up to Castle Rock every February. Should be posting some pics from my last trip there in a couple of weeks. Love the Cave-great for when the weather is bad!

You should be more specific. Which Castle Rock, the one in California, or Washington, or one of the two in Oregon, or Alaska, or Maine or...? You might as well ask for directions to Blue Lake or Bear Creek or MAIN ST. for that matter. Jeff

I'm headed out that way late March and am looking for some recommendations on good classic boulder problems up to a V5/V6. Thanks...

It is the Castle Rock in the Santa Cruz Mountains of CA. GREAT bouldering area! PM jamnsurf for better beta. Also, check out the video Masters of Stone 4 for video of Sharma bouldering there.

My parents live 25 minutes away so every time I go see them I make sure I go up there at least once. I just love the friction problems, they rule!!!

That was my first outdoor climbing spot. My devilish friend put me on the Great Roof. Don't think I've ever been as scared since.

I've been going there since the early 90s when I moved to the Gray Area (SF Bay Area).

YESH free parking along the road till the move the park HQ to the tree farm, then they will close the free parking along the hwy. If you are poor, too bad says the General management plan.

I've been out there a good amount. Some of the best rock (for bouldering and sport) I've encountered anywhere. The only better rock I've found is at the New River Gorge, WV Quality, fun and creative problems. Whoever asked for the guide check Drtopo.com you'll find one there.

I took a class (outdoor living) while attending Martin Murphy middle school (9th grade - 1987) in San Jose. The class went on 2 field trips per semester. We went to Pinnicles State Park and Castle Rock. I didn't know anything about climbing back then. The instructor had us tie in with a bowline around the waste. We climbed what I would now estimate as 5.5. It was very fun, and looking back I can't beleive I had such a beautiful climbing area right under my nose. I didn't starting 'climbing' until 2001. How sad Ken

Hey all, I'll be in town 10/3/08 - 10/15/08 from Austin, TX. Anyone familiar with Castle Rock want to get out there from SF for some climbing (5.10a-5.11a range) or bouldering? I can probably drive. I prefer weekdays, but can do a weekend day too. Am pretty flexible on time/days as I'm just hanging out with my fam. Cheers, Danny
