make a wax mold of a cam
have that transferred to a metal die
give it to a plastic injection molder
take the final piece and give it to the trophy company to *fake* gold dip it.
bolt it to the base, lobes up.
add a 3inch sling sewn on to the connection point. (pull the stitches to get it on and, re-sew it yourself or take it to a parachute repairman.)

idea 2. go find some small, abandoned rock on a private property crag and ask the owner if you can take it. Bolt it, add a hanger, and a quickdraw, bolt it to a varnished wooden base with a small name plate on it.

What kind of comp?

I mean, why would you give a trophy with a cam on it if it was a bouldering comp!

Regarding the etype of comp, It's going to be routes on top rope.

I was thinking sculpted medal with a ribbon. Classic thing.

Or

a real rock with a bronze cast lizard climbing on it.

I always thought free gear prizes made the best trophies.

Something cheap would be to make coffee mugs out of clay with the comp name enscribed on it and have a 'biner as the handle.

Something I really liked was a special t-shirt. We didnt get them for comps but for achievements within the club. Make it special so like the winner always gets like... a yellow one, second something else and so on. If the comp is annual, hopefully last years medal winners show up in the shirts! Its cool to see how last years champs place this year and so forth. Plus its something cool to wear to the crag to show off! 8)
