Cheating Aid climbing is using artificial means for progress; relying on gear, instead of human flesh on rock, to tread onward. It's a rather complicated morass of self-indulgent suffering.....

As far as I understand it, aid climbing is what happens when your upper body withers, the substance between your ears is replaced with air, and you sell your $300,000 house and live in your '81 van in order to purchase your rack. Aid climbing is also sometimes a side effect of being released from a mental institution. Ask the good Dr., I'm sure he'd be willing to explain.

Aid climbing is to ascend a climb with the USE (physical aid) of your gear. Once you weight and rely on your gear, it aids your ascent by momentarily relieving yourself of having to perform all of the required moves free and independent of any material assistance. Kinda sounds like fine print stuff, huh? I've always looked at it as though rope, draws, & gear are like an insurance policy that you never use, but like to have in a successful ascent. D

In your profile it says that you have been climbing indoors since December of 2003. It is Sept 21 2003 right now. Do you know the future? Can you let me know when I will be able to afford that new set of hexes and cams? :P
