Question from a guy..?

This is a serious question, so please take it that way...

Ever since my wife had a baby 13 years ago, her nipples have been ultra-sensitive and she can't stand them to be touched. Since I really dig nipples, this sucks! :(

This afternoon my baby sis was visiting and the 3 of us went out for brunch. While my wife and sister were talking, the subject came up and my sis said that she has been the same way ever since she and her husband had a kid 4 years ago.

Is ultra sensitive nipples a pretty common and normal experience after childbirth, and if so, what's the chance of them reverting back to the point that she could tolerate them being caressed..?

on the off chance this is a serious query ...

when a man empregnates a woman, what side effects does he suffer? well, aside from the loss of 200,00 (give or take) highly motivated sperm cells, [i:e59c85e141]nothing[/i:e59c85e141] really. in fact, he'll replentish those troops relatively quickly.

the woman, however, becomes a walking, talking, mass of hormonal changes, weight gain, emotional upheaval ... she's a wreck. let's not even get into the whole experience of childbirth itself, the aftermath of the hormonal rollercoaster ride, breastfeeding, trying to lose the weight, and the fact your body will never, [i:e59c85e141]ever[/i:e59c85e141], be the same again.

sore nipples indeed.

here's a fun experiment you can try at home: get yourself run over by a dumptruck and see how long it takes [i:e59c85e141]you[/i:e59c85e141] to recover.

Unfortunately, the way this board is setup, it's difficult to tell the difference between quoting someone else, and outward replies.

I'm 37, have been married for nearly 12 years, made 5 references to "my wife" in my posts, and have been climbing since 89.

This was a very serious question, that my wife was looking for answers to, since none of her docs can seem to give straight answers and just brush it off as being "a woman thing".

She had a child (and gave her up) a year before we met, so I was not with her through all of the hormonal changes, so I have no idea of what she was like prior to having a child.

FWIW: We do not have any children of our own!

My wife was standing over my shoulder when I made the initial post, and has since been asking if there have been any responses. If someone would feel better discussing this with her in private, then great; her name is Cathy, and her email is cgreene@great-river.com - She is not a climber.

* I received a PM from a Mod that this thread was being taken as highly offensive and in very poor taste, yet I assure that it was not meant that way. If others feel I'm trolling or that this thread doesn't belong, then please lock/remove the thread.

If you say so, but I have to admit when I saw it I thought it was very out of place and probably a troll. I bit my tongue, figuring this is the ladies room and they'll take care of ya. Not really a question that I'd ask on a rock climbing web site.

My observations:

I've never heard of this happening. I have heard of other, more bizarre reactions to pregnancy. "Just a woman thing" is doctor speak for "We actually don't know quite a lot about how the human body works. That's part of what we don't understand." Modern medicine has figured out a lot, but only a tiny fraction of the whole.

If she's been this way as long as you've known her, it's kind of late to worry about it now. I'd think after 12 years, by now you'd have accepted that that's just the way she is, and probably wouldn't give it much thought.

I don't expect any condition which has been present for 13 years to just magically revert.

Not sure what kind of things, if any, you have tried but I find regular doses of Evening Primrose Oil very effective for breast tenderness related to pre-menstrual stuff.

Don't know if it would work post-pregnancy but it doesn't have any other side effects here's some more info about it if you are interested :

Good luck

I would say exactly this...as well.

evening primrose oil, not to be taken during the peroid. Starting back up when the cycle has ended.

I noticed plenty of good effects from this.
hormonal/bitchy/crampy..etc
flaxseed oil/capsuls as well helped.

I will share the reality of your wifes issues, maybe not to that extreme.
mine is more of defense;I'm sensitive anyway. so... sometimes...because of the goofing off, i've had with my boyfriend...I'm tense.

when he's gentle...and not poking fun...as play/goofing/tweeking.

I'm just fine, once i'm not tense, or not breathing.
may sound more anxt than sensitivity.
but there is something to say about relaxing, breathing and starting slow, gentle.

otherwise...I have a trigger arm...
knocks away the hand before i even know what happened.

reaction.
defense.

hope this reads well for the topic and the point.

Perhaps your wife should have posted the question...would have prevented people from unfairly judging your motives and sincerity because of your gender.

Point taken, but my wife isn't a climber and doesn't do net forums.

For special topics like this one, I would suggest searching Usenet groups. This link might net you a peer group that has had first hand experience with this exact problem:
