Thanksgiving in Asheboro

I have to spend Thanksgiving in Asheboro and I'm not looking forward to it. What's the latest on the Asheboro boulders? If that's a no-go, is there any other climbing options within an hour's drive? I'm talking climbing wall or anything. Thanks.

The boulders are definitely closed. I guess Raleigh would be closest place with a gym, but I'm not completely sure of that. Check either www.carolinaclimbers.org or www.ncbouldering.com to keep up with the latest on Asheboro.

The Asheboro boulders are closed. There is a gym about an hour away in Greensboro. I think it's better than the Raleigh gym.

Moore's has some nice bouldering, but both places are mostly chufff climbing.

I'm not sure what Pornstar means by chuff, but Moore's Wall offers excellent trad and bouldering.

There's a climber who goes by Norskagent on this site. He is very knowledgable about bouldering in central NC.

Here's his profile address:

Send him a PM

Sauratown (btn Pilot and Moores) has good sport climbing. If it's sunny people will be there on Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving. You should be about to hook up.

O.K. The twenty-dollar question. Anyone going to Moore's the day after Thanksgiving care if I tag along or meet up? I'll boulder or trad. I'm bringing my gear.

sauratown is great climbing, it's just kind of hard to find. the only way ive been shown is through a trail at the back of this church camp. pilot might be your best bet if you're going to be there without a partner. ive never not been able to hookup with someone there. plus it's easily accessible. park closes at 6pm on the weekend though and im not sure if the campground is open or not.

id climb with you on thanksgiving but, im still stuck on a boat in the pacific. maybe next year

There is a bunch of quality climbing fairly close to Asheboro (1 hour drive). Moore's is the standout area, but Sauratown is nice as well. Pilot is very convenient, but it has a little lower quality of climbing. I live in the area; send a PM if you need detailed info.
