Fairly obvious. John Salathé. "How do you distinguish between being off-route and putting up a first ascent ?"

In reply to: How about another poet: "Live with me, and be my love, And we will all the pleasures prove That hills and valleys, dales and fields, And all the craggy mountains yields." This is from Marlowe's The passionate Shepherd to His Love the poem actually starts off: Come live with me and be my love, and we will all the pleasure prove That valleys, groves, hills and fields, Woods, or steepy mountain yields well according to my book for my english class this semester that is how it starts off. I guess I did learn something from my english comp 2 class huh. Actually, I did get it from Willy Shakespeare. Click HERE to check it out. I searched my old anthologies but I couldn't find the sonnet, so I searched online. Evidently it is from his obscure collection called, "Sonnets to Sundry Notes of Music." While Shakespeare was actually notorious for borrowing material from other writers, many writers tend to borrow from him as well. Marlowe and Shakespeare were born in the same year, so Shakspeare's piece was probably written as a cynical response to Marlowe's. See the last verse of Shakespeare's: If that the world and love were young, And truth in every shepherd’s tongue, These pretty pleasures might me move, To live with thee and be thy love. It's kinda funny after reading both versions. Shakespeare likes to take that cynical view of love - he probably went into writing to 'get chicks' only to get shafted. Now he's considered a genious. Anyway... Quote on, quote on Edited for my useless information above

In reply to: "I went to retrieve the gun. I accidently left it in the restaurant. No no no, my OTHER gun. I was only gone five minutes. I mean, how long does it take to retrieve a gun after all? And when I came back? Myy wife was dead. Weird!".... Robert Blake, currently being prosecuted for capitol murder in California. The death penalty is not being sought. He was released on $1,500,000.00 bail, for those who don't know this is very rare, as they have alleged he was lying in wait. A lying in wait allegation usually bars people from being eligible for bail. I believe the context of his words were different though. "I started climbing when men were men... and we nailed 5.8."

hangdoggypound wrote: "Shakespeare... probably went into writing to 'get chicks' only to get shafted. Now he's considered a genious. " for the recrd shakespeare didn't go into writing to impress chicks as he was married and had a kid before he really got into writing. His sonnets were also writen to a young boy (with lots of conjecture over his sexuality as a result, misguidedly). So basically it's pretty bloody unlikely that this was his purpose. I'm not tryinbg to argue that he is the artistic puritan that he is sometimes heightened to be as he was essentially writing to make money (and that he did, and lots of it). His later work was also principally based on sucking up to King James. But he still rocks. sorry for my slight pedantic insight. how about this for a classic quote Lady "Winston you are drunk!" Churchill " yes Madam, and you are very ugly, but tomorrow morning I will wake up sober... and you will still be very ugly" (extra points for thinking that one up sober) and another quickie that is kinda good for climbing "we have gone to great lengths but not to great heights"

How about this, not exactly a qoute, but a newspaper announcement: "Men Wanted for hazardous journey. Small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger, safe return doubtful. Honor and recognition in case of success." (Hint, the name has been up already.)

In reply to: "I started climbing when men were men... and we nailed 5.8." I thought this was: "I started climbing when men were men...and 5.8 was aided." And didn't Roper (from the "vague words" quote) do the FA on S Face of Charolette Dome?? That bastard. Being 100' runout on 5.8 face is not fun at all!!! "...Follow the slot pitch. Go up another pitch to the Furrows Pitch." Basically in the 8 pitches of the route, I lead it in 5 with a lot of simul-climbing to find descent cracks to belay in, and we were off route from the end of the first pitch to the start of the last 5th class pitch. Good times. TRADitionally yours, Cali Dirtbag

Wasn't even on the team. Who did will be an exercise for the reader. As they used to say...if you look it up, you'll remember it longer. G.

My turn, my turn.... 1."Living with the immediacy of death helps you sort out your priorities in life. It helps you to live a less trivial life" 2. "You cannot do a kindness too soon because you never know how soon it will be too late." 3.Climb the mountains and get their good tidings: Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine into flowers, the winds will blow their freshness into you, and the storms, their energy and cares will drop off like autumn leaves.
