the ladies have a room, the drunks have a room (community), even the molesting pervs have a room! (aid) it is high time for a teen room on this site. if you agree with me, and are a teen, kindly put your john doe here.

I am not a teen, although most bouncers think I am, and I may at times have the emotional stability of a minor, but I do not agree. Community or chatting on IM should suffice. But I may be a crusty old codger. I am, after all, pushing 24, and I may be out of touch. I think Blackberrys are good for jam and DVDs are a type of underwear. So, why not outline a more convincing proposal? Answer questions like: What issues do teenagers specifically face in climbing? Would you expect or enforce stringent moderation for a forum that is, after all, aimed at children? (sorry to use the C word...) What would a teen forum bring to RC.com? Now, in the words of my buddy Curt S., "pass the damn Geritol."

i think a teen room would be a great idea. im sure our experiences aren't enough to make it a valuable learning experience for any of us with climbing questions, but it might be fun if nothing else...

In reply to: if you agree with me, and are a teen, kindly put your john doe here. What about those that don't agree? Are they not allowed to post here? :) :) In anycase, I vote no unless you can show why teens need an area set aside from them on a climbing website. I agree witht he AOL comment...there are other places for teens to hang out with other teens just for the sake of hanging out. Bryan

I say, why not. Throw it down at the bottom by community and it probably will not bother anyone. There may be enough people that would use it. I expect it to turn into more of a "Hey, any teen female climbers from here want to go out with me?" type of thing though. Some good could come from it ? Maybe. P.S. Any teen female climbers from salt lake want to go out with me?

I am a teen, however I don't think that a teen room would be very beneficial. There isn't much a teen room could provide that isn't already covered in the other rooms. In fact, I believe it is better posting questions and comments in the other forums due to the fact that older (and more experienced) climbers will be answering the posts. So, I don't think I'll be giving you my John Hancock.

i dont think we need one... I can't stand it when someone says "ur only 16, you should be doing homework, not climbing" it pisses me off... but having a teen room is just like making a bigger line between teens and adults... and I don't want to have to stay on this side of the line... hell all the people I climb with aren't teens, so....

I bet no adult on this site ever said "u r..." anything. My crusty 30 year old opinion on a teen room is that it would be putting all of the young fish in one barrel for the horny middle aged pervs, and the climbing advice that would be generated by this world-wise and seasoned demographic would probably be pretty skewed towards the damn-scarey.

first off, im a teen and i don't like this idea at all. You want a teen forum?? heres what you'll get: one climber: im sooo awesome, i climbed 5.13 on my first day, now who wants to do the nasty with me? other climber: oh yeah, well you suck!! i onsighted 5.14 before my first day!! so there, now who wants to do the horizontal bop?? other other climber: you guys both are such [expletive]. i was [expletive] your mom WHILE campus free-soloing 5.15d with a blindfold before either of you!!! so there!!! ha!!! anyone want to... and so forth... besides, a forum without anybody that really knows what theyre talking about kinda scares me... i can say that because im a teen, and i know that most teens, myself incuded, think they know a lot more than they do. just my opinion

Reasons why I think we should have a teen room: 1.) teens, just like ladies (keep the ladies room in mind) have special phsyical needs.. imagine a 13 year old trying out a workout regimen that a 25 year old gave him. he would be in rehab for a while. 2.) teens, just like ladies, deal with their own problems, both climbing and non climbing related..... this would put a stop to the 'girl advice' threads that pop up in the ladies room and piss off kaydid so much. 3.) an excellent place for teens to meet other teens that share their interests (climbing), meet up, and go climbing together. i have met about 10-15 users from this site, and the 4 teenage ones and i had a lot more fun than the older ones and i did. 4.) it gives a teen-oriented community forum, without the questionable (although hilarious) content. if less teens hang around community, then the community forum could be moderated less. that would give camhead and niceporch pretty big smiles. i'll think of more if i ever get done studying ... oh... heres to all the non-teens that said they didn't like this idea: why do you care? if you're not a teen or didn't want to visit the forum (which, if you're not a teen, should not care about visiting anyway), it won't affect you in the least ;) oh one more 5.) think about what a parent would say if they saw their 13 year old daughter reading one of the unabonger's or niceporch's posts. this site would most likely have one less user. now think about what a parent would say if their 13 year old was meeting with and discussing relevant topics with other kids their age.. they'd probably love it. now, the less users this site has, the less sponsors will be interested in it... thus the less ads, thus the less money, thus.. screwed? this is the bfost...chew on that.

one more thing: i just read the post directly above my previous one, and he had a good point about a lot of information generated by people who think they know more than they do.... the way i see it, the teen forum (if there ever will be such a thing) wouldn't have to be just about climbing... i think the ladies room is a perfect example of this... just a bunch of teens talking about teen related issues.

First off, THE PURPOSE WOULD NOT BE TO GIVE TECHNICAL ADVICE!!! Do you really think we would post "How do U bild a top rope ankur" or "Wat is teh bset way to put in portection" and even then listen to answers from other teens? Hopefully none of us guys of gals will be moved to meet a random stranger who makes a move on a climbing site! The forum would be for sharing climbing experiences and just high school life in general. A moderator's only purpose would be to scrap spray contests and sex-related posts. By the way, there are some stupid and immature adults out there, too! Edited for clarity.
