Hey all, I know I don't have that many posts but I log onto this site regularly. I'm more of a voyeur than a participant, but now I have an announcement. The annual fund raiser for the Minnesota Climbers Association (MCA) is on Saturday, January 17. This years event -sponsored by Midwest Mountaineering, Prairie Walls Climbing Gym, and Boreal -amongst others- will be held at Prairie Walls in Rochester Minnesota. This event is wildly fun, and extremely inclusive of all abilities and ages. New this year is a "Geriatric" category for those climbers 40+. This competition, besides featuring great problems, has live DJ's, Bikini Babes in the Hot Tub, and Free Beer. Whatever your reason, come on out and have a GREAT time and support the grass roots climbing association in Minnesota. Oh, Yeah - there are Cash Prizes for top competitors in both the Female and Male Open categories. Sign up and more information at http://www.mnclimbing.org/events.html

Yup we do, (you can join them if you wish-shorts required) and it's not to late to pre-register at the low cost of $30. Pre-registering not only guarantees you free beer -and great climbing- but it will get you a super cool t-shirt too. The deal can hardly get any sweeter!! This comp is unlike any other you've ever been to!

I'm having a real problem reconciling the following: -- Bikinis -- Minnesota -- January I mean, maybe, but I just can't find a way to make them all work. I'm dense like that sometimes.

oh goodness, I hope the bikini babes hit the tanning beds first. I know firsthand how scary WHITE everyone gets during the Minnesota winters. I remember every March when the temps get above 40 everyone would throw on the shorts for the first time and go running around the lakes....and the glare of the white legs was blinding  . I believe the free beer part though. That's the Minnesota I remember

People from Minnesota are required by law to consume large quantities of alchohol just to survive, which leads to the hot tubs in January thing. Why else would anyone live there?

In reply to: That's depressing. I'm a "geriatric" climber? they only say that cause they think getting out of highschool is old. They haven't read their Ben Franklin yet. Life begins at 40. I can't wait. 8)

While I may not be geriatric - yet - nor will I ever be a bikini babe - damm - i'm certainly not in high school. But, whatever your age, pre-school through newring the grave, you are welcome at this event. Today is your last day to preregister and save yourself that $5 you're going to need for bail on Sunday morning. Don't think you're a competitive climber? Think gyms suck? Ever said, "climbing's not about competition"? Then this is the event for you. It will be the most fun possible on a cold Saturday in Minnesota. In fact I challenge you to come up with something that's more entertaining than climbing on mind blowing problems, live music, more climbing comraderie than you've ever had before, and lest we forget the hot tub, free beer, and bikini babes. SIGN UP TODAY!!! http://www.mnclimbing.org/events.html

and I was under the impression guys who climb are more well rounded and less vanting of female beauty than other guys because they find pleasure in ways that are platonic, but maybe I was wrong... and I am disappointed...
