While there are some problems with this site, as there are with any site. Speed is not one of them. I have a 56K connection and I ZIP along. Don't know what the problem is for you, but no one else has mentioned anything.

I did have problems with site speed yesterday, but it's back to normal now. You might have just hit it at a problem time. :?

It almost certainly isn't our servers or excessive load or anything. I'm on all the time and haven't noticed any problems. I've checked out the load averages, network latency, all the usual stuff. Of course "slow" is subjective and may also depend on how your browser loads stuff. One thing that occasionally bothers me is the delay for the google ads to load, but it's not like that stops the rest of the page loading, at least in sensible browsers. I don't know about IE. Can someone please define "slow"? Are we talking page load times of 10-20 seconds or just 3-4? Is there a particular point in a page where things slow down? Is it only certain pages?

Yesterday during a period of about ten minutes, it was taking at least 45 seconds to load a page for me. Went away though, it's all back to normal now. I'm on DSL, so my connection is pretty fast. :)

In reply to: I'm on DSL, so my connection is pretty fast. :) There's a lot between your computer and the RC.com server. It could be anywhere. Of course, a whole ten minutes. Hmm... is your addiction that over-powering?

I haven't noticed if it is just certain pages. Sometimes I'll click on a link, and the status bar will read "waiting for www.rockclimbing.com" or "transferring data from www.rockclimbing.com" with nothing else visibly happening for maybe 10 sec. I'll then hit the Esc key and the page will go blank. I then hit reload and the new page comes up quickly. This has been happening for the last 2 or three weeks, and it has happened from computers at 3 different universities in southern california. -Jay

My guess is a network issue somewhere a long the way, but unless you do a traceroute at the time of the slowdown we'll probably never know for sure. Between Tim and I we're generally aware of server issues pretty quickly, and have seen none lately. Certainly there has been no excessive load that I'm aware of... perhaps Tim can comment on this.
