socks make your feet slip, its really nasty aswell because your feet get even more sweaty, dont wear socks... besides you can get a tighter fiting pair if you dont wear socks

I wear socks. Super thin ones made for track shoes. The people I climb with do too, and they've been doing it for 30 plus years. It's not always newbies doing it.......

Most of the time I don't wear socks, people say that wearing socks is not good for your climbing, that you can't feel the rock as good as you should, personally I prefer climbing without em but I almost don't sweat at all. So I think it depends on everyone. You should climb the way you like the most.

In reply to: One reason to wear socks is that if you are doing First ascents, or climbing routes that are seldom climbed so that you have to do a bit of cleaning, then crud will fall down in your shoes. this crud can be sharp sometimes, and it will work its way to a place where it really hurts adn is distracting. If you wear socks, the crud can't get in as well and doesn;t hurt as much. When not doing ofdfwidths on your FAs, slide the neoprene elbow pads over your ankles like a kind of gaitor. That said: I wear 2 pair socks on alpine, ice, winter and snow routes -- Trangos and Nepal Tops and Civettas don't offer a lot of sensitivity to begin with. I wear liner socks on walls -- wearing climbing shoes for 16 hours a day for a week or longer at a time can damage feet if the shoe is too tight, so looser shoes with socks are the ticket. Cragging, no socks. Gymming, no socks. Hand drilling -- depends on the route. Brutus

In reply to: A friend of mine invented some socks that are just the top of a sock (no foot) with a peice of elastic that goes down under your heel. They keep my ankles warm and safe, but still let my feet "feel" for small holds through the rock. So now I wear those, sometimes. Yeah... Those are called legwarmers. Wore those in the 80's. And on cold nights at the gym.

Socks? Only if I can climb it in approach shoes... which is rare. I can rarely find a matching pair of socks now to think about it. Winer climbing: comfortable shoes. Summer climbing: the same shoes. Socks? Send me some, I'll it out. Late, CF

Socks with shoes are so much more comfortable and less sweaty. I never gave a damn about climbing one letter grade higher because I could have been barefoot instead of socks. I mean, what's the fun in climbing if your feet stink and hurt at the same time? And I'm not a newbie either, having climbed for 8 years, V9 and 5.13.

In reply to: I usually wear very low-cut running socks, but I've been meaning to get some old-school striped tube socks. Yeah, olds- cool. You should get some of those Argyle socks popualr in the late 70's eairly 80's. Grey with a nice red/blue checkerboard. Don't forget the blue short shorts with the white trim and if possible a matching comb handle stick'n out of your rearzs pocket.
