I have heard word fromt the gym that the Forest Service will be doing controlled burns at the throne through the middle of April, and that it will be best not to climb there until they are done. If anyone has any more detailed info, fire away!

This is the first I have heard about this. I hope they do a good job and I hope the fires don't get too close to the rock. I think there is enough distance between the rock and the folliage to create a natural break in the fire line.

Who knows, maybe it will kill back some of the poison ivy :D

I was at the Throne last week. There was no evidence of burning yet. However, we spent a day at Cave Creek, which had been TOTALLY torched! Climbing there was fine...approaches were a little dirty, but no big hassle.

And if it cuts back the poison ivy, it's worth it! I think those "bug bites" on my leg might be more than they seem...

Come on guys! Poison ivy? :) The real threat is those darned ground hog-sized ticks that will be invading the area this summer. Since winter was so nice to us with nary a freeze, climbers around the area will be carrying knives and torches to fend off the pesky critters! If they have already burned at Cave, at least the unaware will have a place to climb if they make the trip.

Aawww, the splenders of the Ozarks! I almost miss those little chiggers that nearly naw your leg off at every Arkansas campsite!
