Is LCC decent for climbing in June/July?? If not, any other suggestions for June/July within short drive of Salt Lake? I have a free house for the summer and would love to fly out and get in some climbing. Thanks for any help.

BCC, LCC, AF, Maple, Lone Peak (might be a tad early but maybe by late June), Bells, Hellgate, Devil's Castle...the list goes on and on. City of Rocks, Castle Rock Ranch, Logan, Ibex, Tetons, Windys, Wild Iris, Sinks, Pequops, all not more than a few hours away... No shortage of climbing 'round here during those months... Brian in SLC

LCC is starting to get hot for bouldering and high end routes about that time, but early mornings are great. Don't go near Hellgate or Devils Castle during this time of the year. American Fork has good shade and swamp-cooler effect. Happy Hunting.

The bouldering is pretty well shaded. Depending on which area you are at. 5 Mile and Lower Butt are nice spots.

If you're going to be in salt lake you should go to logan (1 hour north) or maple (1 1/2 hour). Really good places to climb.

In reply to: Don't go near Hellgate or Devils Castle during this time of the year. why? those are two of the best mid summer crags in the area. just wear a helmet. the industrial wall (coalpit gulch, LCC) is another swamp cooler area. anything on the south side of the canyon is good.

LCC can be hot but there are many options there, depending on temps and time of day. Devil's Castle and Hellgate are two of them. The Pentapitch and Industrial Wall are close to each other and I climbed them when it was 105 in the valley. Keep an eye on the Gate Buttress and Green A areas for early morning or late afternoon shade. BCC is probably better than lower LCC for shaded climbing. You might also want to check out Ferguson's Canyon. If its hot don't bother to hike up Bell's.

Happy Hunting. american fork is way OVERRATED. i mean, i guess it is alright if you like polished limestone at a crowded location with shitty camping. maple is great but watch for some loose stuff. oh, and bring beer. from colorado preferably.
