Geo, the point isn't that your injuries weren't huge, but that you were in a situation that could have been way way worse. You kept your head about you and that's admirable. Had you been frantically irrational your body may have been more ridged and flailing and you could have bounced around and broken your neck or something. Besides, sunshine up your skirt feels good. Enjoy it!!! Sending sunshine! Gina

Next time I gripe about the 2.7 mile approach up and down Mt. Yonah, a bird should nail me right on the bald spot. Bravery is more about doing what you have to do than anything else. Glad you're still around so that I can meet you someday.

I've read a bunch of your TRs and posts, and they seem to have awaken a hunger to do some ice climbing in me; for that alone I am in debt to you (read somewhere that a good single malt is accepted currency in these situations). Im really glad you made it with fairly minor injuries (compared to what might have been). This just goes to show that $H*T does happen on a regular basis, and you need to be prepared for it... When are you going to Peru, and where are you going to be? My family is Peruvian and we are trying to plan a get together down South in june-july, so maybe we can meet up and settle that malt. Again, glad to know that you are ok, and best wishes for a speedy and full recovery.

Geo, Glad that in a manner of speaking your alright. Its true that in spite of experience, caution, and the requisite respect for the medium we can get bit. We all have it happen to one degree or another throughout our climbing careers. Most of us however prefer to not get so close to the other side. Although I don't have a titanium knee cap  I have had considerable re-building on both of them, the rehab sucks! Hang in there Jeff

In reply to: the other reason i stopped at home is somewhat embarrassing (god knows i take enough flak from my climbing partners for it), but i'll share anyway. fifteen years in the marines made a stickler for personal appearance (as i believe even fullofit can attest), and i wanted to clean up a bit and tuck in my shirt before beeng seen at the hospital. go ahead ... laugh if you will. Nah... I know you better than that, Geo... bottom line is, you're just too damned Metro to not spruce yourself up before going out in public.

In reply to: In reply to: Codeine = no wood. So NOT true! The day after I had a major operation, my wife and I had sex in my hospital room without any problem, and I was being shot up with Demerol every couple of hours... Several years prior, we managed just fine while I was in a body cast, after breaking my back on a rappel-gone-bad... Downers actually tend to make me VERY horny! since this discussion has taken a turn..."mtngeo's wild ride" has been moved from trip reports to double entendres... seriously, i was trying to think of something i was less inclined to discuss than geo's yearnings and came up empty. can't we get back to the whole sunshine thing.... r.r.

So glad you are OK Geo. After roping up with Geo, I knew he was one of the safest guys to climb with and that he could most definitely get me out of any stupid thing I got myself into. Now, there is absolutely no doubt! Speedy recovery! -Kel

well written report, geo. glad it ended positively. i can't believe you actually had to watch the remainder of your "anchor" fail right as you jugged to it. kinda adds a "wile e. coyote" quality to the whole scenario.

Dude, I've only started climbing with any seriousness this winter, and can be easily labelled a gym rat. Therefore, I doubt I can fully understand the seriousness of what happened (ie: No idea whats safe and not ice climbing), BUT I wish you the best of luck and a get well wish from a fellow climber.

OMFG. Nice job on the self arrest, I would probably have dorked it and grabbed the pick. You really are an analytical mother fucker in times of great stress. I will have to file this tidbit away in the "hope I never have to use it" drawer in my brain. Happy to hear you are well, keep at it with the physical therapy. Very exciting TR :-)

Glad to read the report, and as I said on the phone: I'm darn glad you're still in one piece (the aforementioned patella notwithstanding.) Missed ya this weekend, but I certainly understand why. I'll call ya this week to arrange things. Keep me posted on the medical stuff, too, would ya? You know how much interest I have in such matters.
