I've had mine for two or three years and it has some wear marks at the points where the rope creates the greatest friction. It get's moderate use belaying and reppelling (2-3 pitch trad, mostly).
Any thoughts?
I guess for a piece that's cheap to replace there's always the good rule of: once you start thinking about replacing it, it's time to replace it.

I just retired my first ATC because the edges were so thin they seemed "sharp" A few $$ isn't worth questionable gear. I wonder if different brands wear quicker? I like BD stuff so the new one is BD.

Mine is four years old and doing fine. You will see some wear on the inner wall. Eventually, the edge the rope rides over may become too sharp a radius (not sharp like a knife, but sharp like a small edge) and I'll retire it. Till then there are other toys

I retired mine this year, after 4 years of intense use!, you'll be able to tell when your rapping if your ATC is heating up more quickly and the surface area of the walls are looking worn down. Another good indicator, on rappel there's light traces of sheath on the side wall
I figure you better retire it sooner then later

I second the feeling "sharp comment." You can flip the sides around and smooth them out a little. I.E if you belay of the right side (brake rope down) do it out of the left side for a little while. The rope will smooth it out a little for you (this is what Petzl recommends with the Reverso.)
