How do you use it in ways that aren't covered in the manual? [Note: By reading/responding to this thread, you are thereby assuming all risk attendant upon your unauthorized use of this device ....blah...blah...blah...]

It works great for tensioning a slackline. You can also modify them to work as a solo device.

I've rapped on a grigri as well, but didn't the instructions say not to rap on it? Can't remember... I've used mine to tension a zipline.

Another trick you can do with the grigri is to put the rope in the wrong way round...

I jug with one for camera work. It allows me to jug and rap without changing devices, and is massively convenient. If I have 3 GriGri's I can juggle them....

In reply to: In reply to: Common people your killing me here. Literacy is always the first victim. One might venture that, in fact, it is the common people who are killing him. Then again, in that case he may have you're literacy disease still.

i've used it for a soloing device, although gotta stop and pull the slack through often. you can also scare new climbers with the no hands trick.

Here's my most useful GriGri trick (although I learned it from someone else, so I can't take credit). There is a nonessential screw near the bottom that holds on the plastic trim piece. You can take this screw out and replace it with one of those screws that has a little swiveling ring on it (available at any harware store). Then, you tie a small piece of 3mm or so accessory cord onto the ring and tie the other end back to a 'biner that you clip to your harness. Tied off this way it is now impossible to accidentally drop your GriGri on a multipitch route. A handy little backup trick since a stock GriGri gives you no way to leave it clipped in while you thread and unthread it. J

Try this trick when juggin'. use a jumar on top with a foot loop. and a gri-gri for your main tie in. hook a pulley to the bottom of the Jumar and run the rope from the gri-gri through the pulley...a magical 3:1 Not very practical just a stupid gri-gri trick.

In reply to: In reply to: ive learned that just because someone can belay you on a gri gri doesnt mean they can belay you on an atc!! How're your ankles? Knees? people tend to rely on the hand brake, then get on a "real" belay device and don't know what to do without a brake. it's all good, small fall, still alive. anbody have an atc with a brake on it? *kidding*
