I'm the president of a Rock Climbing Club at a college and we have to change our name. I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas. That'd be awesome, thanks.

Gravity Creeps. Plastic Pullers. How about (insert college name, like Harvard or Peoria U, or what have you) Climbing Club, how about THAT??? How about the animal house of college climbing clubs, the Warren Harding Downward Bound Memorial Eating, Drinking and Farcing Society? Toga! TOGA! TOGA! Every one now! TOGA! TOGA! TOGA! There ya go, like Tora Bora, only Toga Toga Climbing Club. You can't take ours though: CC...CC, um C? The Central California Cannibis Climbers Club (1,2,3,4... 5! 5 C's!). That one's taken. DMT

knowing the name of the school, mascot, etc would be really helpful and might be used in a name. something that when read, instantly identifies that the group is from associated with that school. so if your school mascot is the koala bears (hypothetically), then you could be the koala bear mountaineers or maybe the koala climbers (but don't spell it koala klimbers, i hate that friggin crap, and so does everyone else.) although "ascending students at school" does have a nice ring to it...

The whole problem is that we can't have our school name before Climbing Club. I don't get it. It's just some bureaucratic crap.

I know someone already started the thread, but I just started a climbing club at the University of Dayton. Our mascot is the Flyers, but we'd like to have a name that doesnt include that.... Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

A climb of note in Yosemite, Hangdog Flyer. Also a climb prominent in the development of sport climbing. None other than Ray Jardine himself did the FA in 1976 with John Lakey, using prototype Friends and well, hang dog tactics. The Hangdog Flyers would be a great name for a climbing club, at once a pun and a not so osbscure reference to an infamous climb by a notorious climber who is proaably on par with Chouinard and Loew in terms of hardware contributions to the sport! I'm tellin ya Brah, Hangdog Flyers! Not bad, eh? You're welcome. DMT

Our mascot is the Flyers, but we'd like to have a name that doesnt include that.... Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I'm the president of the "climbing club at UIUC". Catchy name, huh? It seems that the members don't really give a flying hoot about the name of the club. I dont' think we'd be any more prosperous if our name was an acronym or onomatopoeia. Just call it the climbing club at [your] and go climbing. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet... Euleto- We were actually at one point called the "climbing illini" because most clubs here attach "illini" to any verb they do. There's a sky diving club called the "falling illini"... you get the idea. After about one year of calling ourselves that, we choose to disassociate with all the contraversy surrounding the whole chief illiniwek debate. We just didn't care enough to make a club stand on the issue, so we're now just "the climbing club". Our purpose is to get our midwestern butts on some rock, not to sit around and feel cool about our name. What's in a name? http://www.uiuc.edu/ro/climbingillini (our URL still has "climbingillini" in the title... c'est la vie.)

In reply to: How about the animal house of college climbing clubs, the Warren Harding Downward Bound Memorial Eating, Drinking and Farcing Society? The actual real name that Warren Harding talked about was, The L.S.E.D. & F.S. (Lower Serria Eatting Drinking and Farcing Socity). HM

Back when I was involved with the climbing club at the University of Arizona, I toyed with the idea of changing the name. I found our name, Cliffhangers, to be really dorky. But I quickly decided that I didn't really care. So, I don't have any suggestions other than DON'T pick "Cliffhangers."

Take a map of the Rocky Mountains, the Alps, the Himalayas or the Andes, hang it on the wall, cover your eyes and throw a dart. The peak you hit you take as name - you can put a "club" behind it if you insist. If you don't have a dart, try it on the table, pointing with your finger. Regards, Ulf
