Are you talking about the new years party or the annual rc.com gathering? I've been concidering coming out for the gathering this year and maybe dragging some other Minnesotanas with me.

i have always been under the impression that the new years party was now an "official" and annual rc.com "gathering". heck it's been two years straight now. if there is another gathering near this time a in JT then maybe we could combine them or something. I was just sitting here tonite thinking... "I wonder if we're going to do this again this year", couldn't find any info on it, started that other thread in the w. coast forums, and adam asked me to start up this thread. so here it is. Party, gathering... what's the diff really? come on out... get out of freezing minnesota this winter :) the dates are not set in stone yet... but I'd think we'd be shooting for right around... um... new years?? couple days before/after... something like that.

I'll be in Josh from the 1st of January to the 8th, or something like that... We'll be the drunk and obnoxious Canadians attempting to worm their way into Hidden Valley campground... if the new "rules" don't screw us. If anyone can set us up with a spot I have rather loose morals (wink, wink).

I was kind of planning on being there around then, too. Depends on the availability of mobility.

In reply to: Party, gathering... what's the diff really? come on out... get out of freezing minnesota this winter :) . . . ...and could maybe one of the mod's please put "new years" or something to that affect into this topic's title.... *smacks head* duh. I dont want to create any cornfusion with some other gathering that is going on. (thx) :) Dude, J Tree is pretty frickin' cold when you're camping. I had a total of four pants on one weekend and i ALWAYS get hypothermic whilst belaying in January. That said, you can edit your own first post to reflect a change in title.

It was too much fun last year. Hope to be there again this year. You might want to start looking at group sites. They will fill up fast!

Hey, I have also been to the last two RC.com gatherings in Joshua Tree--and neither of them was over New Years. I think they have been a couple of weeks later in mid-January or so. In any event, we do need to set a date soon--and book a group campsite, because (as someone else noted) those thing do fill up pretty far ahead of time. Curt

sorry mac., didn't mean to hit a nerve there. :D I thought the last one was over the actual "new year"... but I could be wrong as I said before I *was* quite tipsy at the last one. and it sounds like I have either nominated myself or have been nominated to organize this so I will do it to the best of my abilities, but I aint gonna have the $ to reserve the group site, I can tell you that right now... gonna need some help there. it is a possibility that I could beg, borrow or steal the needed funds to reserve the site. I'll look into those options over the next couple of days. oh and I am sure I could get access to about 5 acres of land outside of 29 palms for parking, camping whatever... it's a friend of mines land, but there is *nothing* there other than a dilapidated "house" (there was power at least the last time we went out there). no water, no shade, no nuthin'. so we need some dates and a site I guess huh?...... damn I gotta remember to keep my mouth shut. :) we should keep it at indian cove I guess out of tradition?

No nerve, it's just weird is all. Anyway - I think there were two gatherings in January in J Tree. I seem to remember Paul Addison teasing me about me attending a gathering in mid Jan, I just went down to see Epic Ed. I also ended up in J Tree New Year's day because I knew there was a gathering then, so either way . . .

Isn't J-tree like the only place in the country were you CAN climb in January? Anyway, we'll be there... I figured you have to do the intersection rock thing at least once! Maybe I'll stop by ol' Indian Cove and say hi...

Karen, Justice and I will be there. Dates are usually 30th till the 2nd. Try to get GS#1 or #2 in Indian Cove, as they hold the most.

In reply to: Isn't J-tree like the only place in the country were you CAN climb in January?. Pshaw - Bishop is climbable. It's also less cold for the most part. I am sure there are spots in Arizona and Texas, too.

Of course, the temp really should be above freezing, and it simply must be a sunny day on rock with southern exposure... So, anyone passing through here in December, January, or February, feel free to give a hollar and we'll see if we can't get you on some cold rock.  curt??? You still need to pay your mother a visit here don't you?  duskerhu

In reply to: Isn't J-tree like the only place in the country were you CAN climb in January? T-Wall, Hueco, Red Rocks, and Bishop spring immediately to mind as alternatives. I'd be psyched if everyone went to those places instead of J-Tree. Am I the only climber left who prefers to not be surrounded by people while climbing? But seriously... I'll be there. I'm putting together a trip for my school's outing club. Should be 5 or 6 of us there. Not sure where we are staying yet (this may be a problem...). We'll be there from 12/26 to 1/3 or thereabouts.

those places are all great, bishop would be fun and is nearly as close a JT for me, but it's a tradition now, eh. :) I was just looking at the reservation page for Indian Cove and it seems to tell me "error sites not available for time period" I used the dates 30th-2nd, if that's when we were going to do it... (if adam sez those'r the dates I believe him :) ) Ya think Paul will even make it out there this year without getting busted for something or pulled over or a flat tire... or a..... (love ya paul :) ) I tried Group site #1 and #2... probably just me missing something. I'll call em in the morning. *edit* the site sez site GS #1 is available starting on like the 2nd... I'll still call them in the morning... maybe we should just do it later?

i dont think we have really decided on the dates yet JT. Adam, are the dates your coming out here set in stone? We aren't getting Indian Cove Group Site #1 over the 30th to the 2nd... GS#1 is open from Dec. 20th-25th and then again on Jan 2nd-6th The only Indian Cove GS that is availible from the 30th to the 2nd is GS #12 which holds 25 ppl and is one of those ones *way* at the end of that road aint it? um... ideas?
