I was also hoping to make a day trip up to DL this weekend and my partner just canceled. I'm up for it pending weather (chance of rain keeps getting worse). Sunday looks best. I'm in Chicago and we could meet up. PM or post.

Obsessed Newbie and I will come up from Chicago in the morning.

Where do you want to climb/meet up? Depending on weather, I'd vote for meeting @ CCC parking lot @ 9am and maybe heading to Sandstone (drive) or East Ramparts as it will be emptier than usual. If you have a spot though, I'm totally open.

i will be heading up to devils lake early saturday morning with intentions on some solo aid practice on upper diagonal. so please, if you see a dude hanging out with aiders on come say howdy. you'll see a black ford focus sedan with climbing stickers in the CCC lot.

i really need to get some aid practice in, and would also like to solo to practice that. but after a route or two i'll probobly get board and will love to hook up with some dudes for a bit of climbing and maybe some beer and pizza afterwords.

warning: i hope nobody plans to climb upper diagonal this weekend, becouse IMO, this satuday its rated C1 not 5.9 :D

ironchef,

Does the south shore lot work for you to meet up on sunday? Another climber is coming down from Green Bay and doesn't know DL and I figured the easiet place to meet is south shore, we can always meet and then park over at CCC.

As I told everyone, I had a blast also and it was great to meet a bunch of people from the site totally blind and have everything work out perfectly.

The weather was great and I'm now convinced climbing quartzite in the 40 deg F range is the best way to go (friction @ DL?) We were also able to climb a bunch of the classics at the East Ramparts without the normal overcrowding. Here's hoping for another sunny winter weekend.

I've heard, but haven't confirmed, that they have some short routes at Gov. Dodge state park in WI and also near the Univ. of Northern IA they hose down some old silos for climbing.

Hey guys,

Had an awsome time this weekend also.

I have heard that there is some ice close to the Green Bay Area. I will check into it and gt back to you.

Also, I am looking to try ice this winter also, so if anyone want to take a trip to Munising or Sau St. Marie, let me know. Drive up to Green Bay and we could meet up and road trip up together, sharing the drive - it can be a little boring.

i'm seriously considering hitting up munsing the week between christmas and newyears, the one that nobody every bothers working. i'll be with family in michigan (midland area) for christmas, but its still going to be a damn long lonely drive.

i really need to buy some frikin screws. i got new tools, new poons and a newish dry rope, but no damn screws.

anybody know of any lower pen. michigan ice???

there are at least 2 areas there...one is pretty close to the road (park on the side), you just hike the really short trail and go down some block steps... i think you take the right side at the fork in the road after the parking lot. ~25' tall. at leat 1 section (the main waterfall itself) is 15'-20' wide but is sometimes wider.

the other area i remember was a frozen split waterfall. again, probably around 30'. that was a longer hike in...i don't know how to find that one from the parking lot (go left at the fork). my first ice lead...WI3+ in plastic conditions. took all of 3 screws to protect

Upper Limits in Bloomington, IL does that too (or, at least, used to) but it ain't cheap! i've heard up to $60 a visit. i can't find any relevant information on their website, so maybe they no longer do it.
