Liked the other thread a lot so I ask... What's the opposite? No - scratch that... Better question - What do you call a climber who doesn't dirt bag but climbs like a madman? For example - I've known, met or strive to be like the climber who rolls into the lot with their Subie Outback (or better yet Audi All-Road) climbs out drinking the latte mocha dressed in the latest soft shell goodness, pulls out a monster rack (not new - well used but MONSTER) and proceeds to run up the Grand Wall and Freeway in a day. (Maybe Alaskan Highway if the dinner reservation is late in the eve) End of the day? Pub time with a nice dinner before the hotel room and a shower... every day. Mmmm - Hard Core climbing and high life living. C'mmon people - lets hear your stories of excess on the climbing luxury front!

Yesterday me and my friend ran into Toronto. We spent the day in various outdoor gear stores, spending out money on new gear. We had talked about going to a climbing gym in TO, but we instead we went to dinner and beer. On the way home we chatted about climbing then went to starbucks for rediculisly overprised coffee flavored drinks, then wandered around Chapters looking at the climbing magazines/books. We each came out of the book store with one climbing related book each, then went home. Some how we spent the whole day talking about climbing/making climbing related purchases, but never actually even getting to the climbing gym (much less outside). Hmmm, that was quite the climbing posuer day

for better or worse i think your description is one of the typical climber. climbing is mainstream and gear isn't cheap.

Smart, that is what you would call a person than that lives like that. I have slept on more sidewalks and benches in airports to save the $60 for a hotel room that is makes me sick. I have climbed with those types and it is a fantastic change. It is only another 15 minutes from a warm hotel room in Vegas to Red Rocks and it is a lot easier to get up at 5 ifyou haven't had your tent mates ass brushing up against you in the middle of the night as he tossed and turns with offwidth nightmares. Also, food is a good thing. You spend less time cooking and doing dishes if you eat at the restraunt. This gives you more time to climb. That being said I would take my poor ass climbing style over over the plush yuptified style. I can say this knowing full well that it is stupid. But to have that kind of money you either need to inherit, get really lucky, or work you ass to nub. If like most successful people you work like crazy then you don't have time to climb and I refuse to give that up for a single malt. Gimme my Pabst, a smelly tent mate, and drumming-trippin-hippie neighbors that keep you up all night just so long as I can climb the next day and the day after.

I was poking fun at myself there, M, but didn't want to spray about a nice truck in the process. You blew my cover. Owning an RV in addition to a home or appt. is one thing. Living in a trailer park in a tow trailer as your primary residence is another. Trust me on that one. If I fall down drunk, chances are I'll fall thru my wall and into my neighbors trailer...now THATS dirtbag. ;) -Kate.

Sorry...I didn't mean to blow your cover. I didn't realize that it was meant to be ambiguous. As long as you still have most of your teeth and get to live year-round, indoors, right where the climbing is by choice, I'll continue to envy your lifestyle and covet your RV! Curt's Scotch seems like much less of a luxury to me.
