Big change is always gutsy, no matter what the inspiration for doing so.

I you have lots of new opportunities spring up to take the time that your job used to take!

Best wishes,

The first time I went to Indian Creek I struggled to follow up a climb called Incredible Hand Crack. Loved the route and told myself someday I'd come back and lead it.

On Saturday I went back to Indian Creek and redpointed Incredible Hand Crack. I can't explain how wonderful that felt!!

While in Moab I also got to climb Fine Jade on the Rectory and the North Face of Castleton Tower. What an amazing climbing trip!

Thanks for the congrats on job quitting. Actually, I start up again (new company, big promotion) on NOvember 29th. The upside? I can rack up more frequent flyers. The down side? Lots of time away from my loved ones.

So...if anyone out there needs a high end consultant...let me know! ha ha.

congrats to wallress for getting up something youve been saving for so long, rock_diva for redpointing something that sounds like quite an accomplishment, and trangtu for taking a real fall and pushing yourself. as for latest accomplishments, i don't have one worthy or writing about yet, but soon enough... and you women rock, by the way... you all inspire me to try harder and climb harder, as a woman who has just started leading trad this season... rock on.

I second that! Don't know who said it first, but...every journey begins with a first step!

Thanks for the encouragement also.

 Congratulations ladies on your achievements.
My latest accomplishment was climbing one more of the Cascade volcanoes, Mt McLoughlin. Not a technical climb, but was difficult in winter conditions.
Hope I can finish all the Cascade volcanoes.

Change of Focus [In reply to]

The most important accomplishment I've made in recently is to stop focusing on pushing the grades and instead pick routes based on my style, what is fun for me, and the environments I enjoy climbing in. I can't overstate how this has made climbing fun again, and allowed me to find my own strengths and preferences.

This is something I hope no one overlooks as a major part of the challenge of climbing. We all know that just because you're physically fit doesn't mean you're ready to cruise up an lengthy overhanging route ... even if it's only a 10a.

Especially as competitive females, I believe we all have a tendency to size each other up based on external criteria. The truth is, you have no idea what mental, emotional, or physical obstacles another climber has overcome. For instance, people might watch my husband struggle on a 5.9 lead and think he's a pansy...until they find out he's still recovering from extensive shoulder surgery: you could never tell by looking.

Well I didn't quit but I got fired for this reason: "You're just not working out." WTF does that mean???

I increase your revenue in TWO depts by $10,000 and you STILL aren't happy? And when you rehire someone for my position you have to hire TWO people to do my job?

Man they were a not-for-profit and I still got treated like that. Good heavens!! Yeah I'm glad I'm gone.

I say stay on til you can stick it to 'em. As the boys would say "Dickstab 'em in the fartbox". But not literally of course.

On a much lighter note, I finished a 5.10- at the gym the other night...my first climb above a 5.9 ever. :)

Thanks but I'm not sorry. :) Any org who treats people that way is a waste of energy to work for. I just needed to vent and get it out there..it happened awhile back actually. :)

It is hard to quit even if you hate it. I reached that breaking point before I moved to Colorado..my job was dead-end and paid crap. I knew it was time to move because that had been the situation in several of my jobs.

I say save your pennies, take a month off to play and then go back to it. If only it were that easy eh?!

I am leaving for EPC on 2/23 with a group of 12 people (the largest I have assembled for a trip to EPC). We are climbing for 10 days.

Then I am going to have to go back to work. Anyone have a fun, wonderful job that pays millions, and still allows me to play?
