Too hard? Boo hoo.
A good way to get better at sport climbing is to get on climbs that are 'too hard' for you.
Call me cold, but I do not feel sorry for people whining that the routes are too hard. It's just some lame sense of entitlement.
There are plenty of easy bolted sport routes out there, and some places are better for beginning climbers than others. Go to those areas. You don't send noobies to Rifle. Beginning skiiers don't start on black diamonds. New surfers don't paddle out at Sunset.
Start somewhere else, and then go to riverside. 8^)

Since the area is now being frequented by others than the developers and their circle of friends, I figured I'd post this here:
We've just bolted the next wave of routes. Because of the fractured nature of the rock at the crag, there is still quite a bit of cleaning to be done on them.
If you see a route with a red tag on the first bolt, please stay off of it. This has nothing to do with ego, just with safety. Most of these are only 5.10 or 5.11 and are well within the abilities of those that bolted them. They are, however, still filled with loose rock. Most of the necessary cleaning should occur in the next few weeks and then they'll be good to go.
Also, I've seen a ton of new faces out there recently. Many of them are members of this site, so:

I have helped put up routes here over the last three years and if you live in SoCal you should check it out! High concentration of vertical to overhanging sport routes only a short drive away. Yes it is not the most gorgeous surroundings but you can't beat driving right in and climbing your heart out.
The routes are super long with interesting moves. The Quarry was created in the 50s by blasting dynamite which fractured the rock and left behind roofs and steep walls with holds that face many different ways.
I have moved away :cry: but had much fun opening the area with Louie and Brent. Much thanks goes to Louie who continues to be the driving force of new routes and trash clean up. Many mornings we would get to the crag at the break of day only to find Louie already hanging from his rope putting up another classic! :D

Is it possible to use a 50m rope at the quarry? Can i just purchase a bunch of quicklinks and rap every time i run out of rope? is there another alternative? By the way, does antone know if the routes still have the grades chalked at the base?

yeah, 5.11s are weaksauce. 5.12 is rad -- really cutting edge climbing!! i hope one day i can climb that hard, get a prana sponsorship, and make fun of lesser people.
hey jay, go to ANY other climbing site (you know, ones with real climbers) and people will laugh their ass off at things YOU say. try it. its safe here, at rc.com, where people who climb 12s are worshipped.
there's a whole other world out there, folks.

There are a few routes u can climb with a 50 meter rope. The vast majority need a 60 meter though. Most routes are 30 meters long and require a 60 to be safely lowered off. Some routes are in the 40 to 50 meter range with lowering stations at 30 meters.
Suck it up and get a 60 meter. Do not leave quicklinks behind on routes because u did not come prepared with a 60 meter. Or just stick to the shorter routes.
Louie has a guide to the area as I type being printed. It will have grades and lengths of routes. Chalked in grades at the base of routes will start disapearing as the new guide gets out. PM "socalbolter" here at rc.com if u want a guide.
