Just getting the early word out for the 3rd annual New River Rendezvous, May 20-22- 2005.
This three day climbers gathering is a fund raiser for NRAC /Access Fund and the goal is to get $$$ so we can replace old anchors at the New and continue the work of trail maintance.
This is a killer party with low key bouldering and trad comp.
Go to: www.waterstoneoutdoors.com for all the info....
See ya there....keep it real.

I went last year and had an amazing time! I was only there from Saturday afternoon until Sunday around lunch so I didn't get much more than an hour or two on the hawk's nest boulders before the rain started and I still loved every second of it. The party Saturday night was phenominal! Since my first NRR I have been to several other climbing events and nothing has come close to the amount of fun I had at the New. Don't miss it. Maybe this year I will actually get to do some climbing :)

It's a testament to how well organized the the NRR is that they've not once had good weather for it and still, everybody who's been to one raves about it. The organizers have this advice: Don't even check the weather. Just show up. It'll be fantastic, no matter what the weather does.

I have it on good authority that this year's rendezvous will be even better that the last two. Not to be missed!

Want to know what goes on at the NRG Rendezvous? What do you think about this:

Free Camping
Free Food
Free Drinks (yes, beer!)
Music
Dancing
Seminars on technique, photography, etc.
CLIMBING
BOUDLERING
COMPS! (DYNO COMP)

Of course, this is a fund raiser, so the $ that you save from not having to pay for all the usual stuff (food, camping, beer), why not give some of that to the cause?

Seriously, this is an awesome time, not to be missed! Rain or shine, NOOB or old school, sport or trad, climbing or mud wrestling, be there!

The New River Gorge Rendezvous is a great time weather it rains or not. The scene at the New is super chill and all of the climbers there are really friendly. I've lived there for the past couple of summers and can't get away from the place. There are thousands of routes in the gorge and there are also counless boulders all over the place. The music at the rendezvous is all organized by awesome dj's, including Kurt Smith. Hope to see ya there.

Wow, sounds pretty cool. Do folks actually do trail work during that weekend? I'd like to be involved in something like that.

More NRG Rendzvous info. Yes we do do trail work. Usually on Friday of then event. Sat is for climbing!!!! Everything is free unless you do a comp(nmoinal fee).
We are finializing the climbing managment plan with the park service so that we can go crag to crag and rebolt old anchors with happy happy stainless. so the money raised goes toward this effort. We should have the greenlight to rebolt all of bridge butress by the end if FEb, and then move on from there....

As for DJ;'s. the reaL DJ'S ARE JASON, ANDY AND MATT AND THEY ROCK THE HOUSE.....SO BRING YOUR DANCING SHOES!

All the info you need is at waterstone.com...
MAy 20-22 so tell all to come and it will not rain!.......

Do not miss this! The best gathering/comp i've ever been to and maybe this year it won't rain! Seriously, this is the most awesome party and the best way to donate however much to the local climbing efforts. This is something that I will have on my calendar every year that they have it! I'll see you all out there!

So is Doug Reed still active in the area? I havent climbed down there since the early 90's. I was working some 11. on the bridge butress and met him. One of the nicest pros I met ! Ive been out of the loop for some years, getting back into it. ...just wondering if he's still contributing down there. Me and the wife are going to try to make it.

Are you kidding? With the sheer number of classic trad lines there, you're sure to find one that's uncrowded! That's what's awesome about the New, there are so many stellar climbs that something will be open for sure.

The guy who posted the advice to not even check the weather before going to the New is spot on. I've climbed at the New for a dozen years and I can't tell you how many times I've headed down there holding printouts of crappy weather reports and had great weather...and vice versa. The weather is extremely mercurical but that's what you live with when you climb in the east.

I'd like to go down, but I have no car. I'll have to see if I can convince some other Ontarionites to go and let me stow away in the trunk of their car.

I've only been to the New once, but it was a really off few days and I did more swimming than climbing. :[

I'm volunteering in some way shape or form at the rendezvous, but not sure how yet. I'm gunning for bartender. If so, I expect all you drunk MFs to stop by for a snort and a howdy.
