Would have been a much faster process just to pinkpoint it, but he wanted to do it in the best style he was capable of. Edited to add that the FFA was done by Peter Croft on pinkpoint. Though I'm sure that it was pretty trivial to him, as far as I know that route hasn't had many ascents, pink or red.
