There is a similar sailing hitch called the black wall hitch, and apparently in Italy this is called the Edi Lorenz hitch. It seems to be a bit carabiner dependent. Specifically with a smaller top carabiner it can be impossible to capsize. Mess around with it and see for yourself if you are curious how safe it is.
